Overview
At Piedmont Walton, a 77-bed community hospital with a 15-bed Emergency Department and 8-bed ICU, our Respiratory Therapists are essential members of a high-performing, interdisciplinary care team. Serving a diverse patient population from infants to older adults, our RTs provide expert care across a wide spectrum of acute and chronic respiratory conditions. Our therapists work in fast-paced, high-acuity areas including the ER, ICU, and Med-Surg units, supporting everything from mechanical ventilation, intubation, and ABGs to oxygen therapy, EKGs, and EEGs. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where clinical skill, critical thinking, and teamwork are valued every day.
Responsibilities
- Performs basic patient assessments.
- Performs advanced patient assessments.
- Ensures documentation.
- Administers medication.
- Proficient in arterial blood gas/ co-oximetry, interpreting and reporting of results.
- Inserts, maintains, and documents arterial lines per protocol.
- Ensures basic airway management and clearance for the adult/pediatric/neonate.
- Ensures advanced airway management and clearance for the adult/pediatric/neonate.
- Performs or assists intubation.
- Initiates, monitors and manages invasive mechanical ventilation.
- Initiates, monitors and manages non-invasive positive pressure ventilation on the adult/pediatric/neonate.
- Performs or assists special procedures including tracheostomy, bronchoscopy, and intubation assist.
- Safeguards patient care equipment and maintains fiscal responsibility.
- Contributes to quality and outcomes.
- Functions as preceptor.
- Provides respiratory care for newborns in Labor and Delivery/NICU.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy. Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy.
- Experience: Previous Working Experience in Neonatal Respiratory care, or successful completion of department specific orientation including skills validation of competencies for the duties and responsibilities of this level.
- Licensure/Certification: Credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and Licensed by the State of Georgia under the Composite State Board of Medical Examiners. BLS, ACLS (ALS can be used in place of ACLS) and PALS required.
- Additional Qualifications: Must be actively practicing and maintaining all required competencies.
