Registered Respiratory Therapist - Full Time Day

Plan, implement, and evaluate diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory services to assist physicians and nurse practitioners in diagnosing and managing residents with cardiopulmonary and related disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and promote the organization’s mission, vision, and core values.
  • Perform assessments and therapeutic modalities for infants, children, and adolescents as ordered by physicians or nurse practitioners.
  • Administer nebulized treatments, chest physiotherapy, oxygen therapy, bag/mask ventilation, and other treatments to maintain a patent airway.
  • Monitor residents on various oxygen support systems.
  • Maintain secure and patent resident airways, including performing nasal, nasotracheal, endotracheal, and oral suctioning.
  • Administer techniques to induce sputum and support criteria for appropriate resident care and respiratory services.
  • Recognize medical problems and report them to the charge nurse, physician, or nurse practitioner in a timely manner.
  • Set up, stock, and remove equipment and supplies; ensure equipment is functioning properly and is cleaned and stored appropriately.
  • Function as a team member, supporting peers and management to provide optimal respiratory care.
  • Coordinate and/or supervise activities of assigned personnel.
  • Participate in resident management decisions and plans.
  • Recommend and request physician evaluation and review of respiratory care services as appropriate.
  • Accurately and completely update resident information, including charting.
  • Provide resident and family instruction and education on respiratory-related disease processes and therapeutic procedures.
  • Function as a member of the code blue team by providing effective airway access and management.
  • Enhance professional growth through education programs, current literature reviews, workshops, and in-services.
  • Attend departmental and organizational meetings and participate in quality improvement teams as directed.
  • Make independent decisions when circumstances warrant timely action.
  • Interact tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.
  • Maintain knowledge of laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to nursing home operation.
  • Plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain supplies, equipment, and work areas.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary or directed by supervisors.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree from an AMA-accredited school for Respiratory Care or equivalent.
  • Current New York State Registered Respiratory Therapist license and Registration Certificate (required).
  • BLS and PALS certification.
  • Registered by National Board for Respiratory Care (preferred).
  • One year of acute or long-term care experience, specifically with pediatrics preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
  • Meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and other regulatory agencies.
  • Pass a medical and physical examination as per the center’s policies.
  • Ability to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 35 pounds.
  • Willingness to perform tasks involving exposure to residents’ blood/body fluids.
  • Ability to assist in the evacuation of residents if necessary.

Working Conditions

  • Work in a well-lighted and ventilated area.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions.
  • May be asked to work beyond normal working hours or in other positions temporarily when necessary.

Pay

$104,204.63/year to $114,204.63/year, plus a $6,000 sign-on bonus.
