Responsibilities

• Provides basic and advanced Respiratory services to adult and geriatric patients at VA Central Iowa HCS.
• Makes recommendations to providers regarding changes in treatment based upon patient observation and diagnostic test values.
• Communicates changes in the respiratory care plan and/or patient status to other health care team members as appropriate.
• Performs both fundamental and advanced diagnostic procedures.
• Performs both emergency and acute Respiratory Care procedures in accordance with departmental guidelines and industry standards.
• Participates in departmental quality assurance and hospital organizational performance improvement.
• Communicates with patients, families, students, and facility staff when appropriate.
• Works in face-to-face settings, telephone settings, and via telehealth modalities.
• Ensures compliance with safety protocols.
• Maintains clinical and professional competency based upon established standards of practice.

Requirements

• Successfully completed a respiratory care program accredited by the CoARC or its successor.
• Full, current, and unrestricted license from a state to practice as an RRT.
• Valid, current, unrestricted credential of RRT.
• Active, current, full and unrestricted RRT credential.
• Profound proficiency in written and spoken English.

Qualifications

• Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship, Education, Licensure, Credential.
• GS-5: Creditable Experience, Part-Time Experience.
• GS-7: Experience, Education, Licensure and Registration.
• GS-9: Experience or Education, Licensure and Credential.
