About the role
The Registered Respiratory Therapist position is located in the Nursing, Operations department at the Edward P. Boland VA Medical Center in Leeds MA. This position is full-time day shift with 40 hours and includes regular travel (25%) between Leeds and Springfield facilities to meet the needs of the Nursing, Operations Service.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a member of the Respiratory Therapy Section at the VISN 1 VA Healthcare System.
- Provide the full range of clinical procedures related to respiratory care.
- Work independently providing respiratory care in both inpatient and/or outpatient settings.
- Establish appropriate plan of care and determine if outcomes are being met.
- Consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure quality of patient care within area of specialty.
- Manage and maintain the airway and ventilation of the patient using appropriate mechanical means.
- Determine and implement complex respiratory care such as protocols, respiratory modalities, bronchoscopy, medications or supplemental oxygen and intubation.
- Maintain critical systems and use advanced modes of ventilation and outpatient services, such as home ventilators and COPD case management.
- Suggest alternate modes of treatment based on assessment and analysis of patient response to treatment.
- Perform invasive procedures such as arterial line placement.
- Precept lower graded staff and lead projects developing new policies, procedures or protocols.
- Evaluate efficacies of therapeutic modalities and perform advanced airway and ventilation management.
Requirements

Qualifications
- One year of creditable experience equivalent to the GS-09 level demonstrating the clinical competencies described at that level.
- Full, current and unrestricted license as an RRT from a state.
- Valid, current, unrestricted credential of RRT.
- Over one year of experience providing outpatient Respiratory therapy to patients, including assessment, treatment planning, and implementation of therapeutic modalities in a clinical setting.
