Job Summary

Performs basic and critical respiratory care services. Works independently and supervises others as delegated. Provides respiratory care for adult and geriatric patients with respiratory diseases as ordered by a physician.

Job Requirements

  • Education and Work Experience:
    • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (Master's Degree preferred)
    • Three years' technical experience (Preferred)
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • Registered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-RRT) credential or Certified Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-CRT) credential
    • RCP license
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (Preferred)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (Preferred)
    • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) certification (Preferred)
    • Registered or Certified by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credential

Essential Functions

  • Assesses and documents appropriateness of prescribed respiratory therapy, including recommendations.
  • Administers aerosol and oxygen therapy while maintaining accurate patient charts.
  • Draws arterial blood gases per physician order and policy.
  • Provides care for mechanically ventilated patients.
  • Aids in department operations, record keeping, and training of new staff.
  • Documents treatments, maintains records, and completes required charge documentation.
  • Aids nursing staff with patient and equipment monitoring.
  • Performs pulmonary function tests, drainage procedures, and additional respiratory care.
  • Maintains, cleans, processes, and prepares respiratory therapy equipment.
  • Serves as a respiratory care resource for physicians and hospital staff.
  • Assists with inventory, ordering, and specialty equipment setup.
  • Assists physicians during bronchoscopies and other special procedures.
  • Serves as a respiratory care resource for physicians and hospital staff.
  • Supports quality control activities, staff scheduling, and competency programs.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
