About the role

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic and critical respiratory care services.
  • Works well without supervision as well as maintains supervision over others, as delegated.
  • Provides respiratory care services for the adult and geriatric patient.
  • Provides respiratory care for patients with respiratory disease, as ordered by the physician and in accordance with current department policies concerning all phases of respiratory therapy.
  • Completes paperwork, electronic medical records, flow sheets, and charges for each patient.

Requirements

  • Education and Work Experience: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (some certifications will require Bachelor's): Preferred Master's Degree: Preferred Three years' technical experience: Preferred
  • Licenses/Certifications: Registered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-RRT) credential or Certified Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-CRT) credential: Required in CA, OR, and HI State Respiratory Therapist and Polysomnographic (RT-P) license: Required in OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Preferred Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) certification: Preferred Registered or Certified by the National Board of Respiratory Care: Required Facility Specific License/Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required AHA-ACLS or ARC-ALS: Required State Respiratory Therapist (RCP/RRT): Required AHA-NRP or ARC-NALS: Required

Qualifications

  • Adequately assesses and documents the appropriateness of prescribed therapy (including recommendations) for patients receiving respiratory care services.
  • Adequately administers aerosol and oxygen therapy, while maintaining charts.
  • Adequately draws arterial blood gases per policy and physician order.
  • Adequately provides care to ventilator patients.
  • Adequately completes the initial ventilator bundle orders upon initiation of mechanical ventilation.
  • Adequately ensures compliance of VAP bundle for all patients receiving mechanical ventilation.
  • Adequately identifies measurable and reasonable outcomes while using appropriate therapy interventions to resolve patient needs.
  • Adequately updates and communicates the diagnosis throughout the patient's stay based on patient's changing condition and disease status.
  • Adequately performs pulmonary function tests, drainage procedures, and provides additional patient care regarding cardio respiratory disease.
  • Adequately provides suggestions regarding the patients' treatment and pulmonary progress.
  • Adequately provides assistance in cardio respiratory rehabilitation.
  • Adequately provides instruction to patients and family in the nature of cardio respiratory disease and its ramifications.
  • Adequately makes rounds to check all respiratory therapy equipment in use or on standby in patient areas.
  • Adequately serves as a knowledge resource to the physician and hospital staff in relation to the technical aspects of respiratory care and the effectiveness of methods to administer safe respiratory therapy.
  • Adequately assists in stocking and re-ordering parts and equipment.
  • Adequately assists in the set up of specialty equipment.
  • Adequately keeps the equipment clean and ready for its next use.
  • Adequately assists physicians with bronchoscopies and special procedures.
  • Adequately assists with quality control, staff schedules and competencies.
  • Adequately performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Adequately serves as a knowledge resource to the physician and hospital staff in relation to the technical aspects of respiratory care and the effectiveness of methods to administer safe respiratory therapy.

Pay

The estimated base pay for this position is $35.37 to $53.01. Additional individual compensation may be available for this role through differentials, extra shift incentives, bonuses, etc. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package, and a comprehensive benefits program is available for qualifying positions.

Schedule

Full time Shift Length: 12 Hours
