Registered Pharmacy Technician - Temporary - Variable Shifts - Includes Weekend Hours - Eastern Long Island Hospital

This position requires a Registered Pharmacy Technician to assist the Pharmacist in routine, non-judgmental activities associated with the preparation and delivery of pharmaceutical services.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist subject to the limitations set forth in the Rules of the Board of Regents, University of the State of New York, Education Department, section 29.7.
• Provide assistance to the pharmacist in technical aspects of drug dispensing that do not involve professional judgment. All activities require review and approval by a pharmacist.
• Perform activities including, but not limited to:
  • Cart filling medications
  • Addressing patient discharges, transfers, and new admissions
  • Delivering medications to nursing units
  • Unit dosing medications from bulk containers
  • Cleaning the isolator
  • Batching IV piggy backs
  • Addressing crash carts, ALS Boxes, and kits in the pharmacy and other hospital areas
• Inventory Control:
  • Ordering, receiving, and stocking drugs
  • Restocking medications in Omnicells within nursing units
  • Performing cycle counts, adding or removing medications
  • Assisting in the annual physical inventory
• Inspections:
  • Ensuring proper storage and security of drugs
  • Removing outdated or recalled drugs in the Pharmacy Department and other hospital areas
  • Monthly cleaning of Omnicells and medication refrigerators
• Transportation: Providing messenger services for routine departmental activities, including occasional transport outside the hospital.
• Clerical duties:
  • Processing patient charges or credits
  • Processing invoices
  • Filing and answering telephones
• Maintain order and cleanliness in the department.
• Cooperate with all personnel for the proper conduct of the department.
• Rotate within the department and by shift as required.
• Maintain ethical relationships and adhere to hospital and departmental rules and regulations.
• Participate in in-service programs.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Current valid NY State Registered Pharmacy Technician license and registration
• Current valid Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Health career Association (NHA) Pharmacy Technician certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s degree
• Prior Pharmacy Technician experience
• Sterile compounding experience
• Computer skills with Microsoft Word and Excel

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to communicate with patients, office staff, and medical providers, exchanging accurate information.
• Adequate vision and hearing.
• Ability to use a short ladder.
• Ability to lift thirty (30) pounds off the floor onto a countertop.
• Adequate mobility to retrieve stock and transport medication carts.
• Adequate manual dexterity to assist in compounding and dispensing prescriptions, including batching IV Piggy Backs, IV admixtures, and other sterile products (must be credentialed).

Pay

$31.140 - $34.805 per hour

Schedule

Full-time. This is a temporary leave replacement that may end at any time.
