Job Description
Assist pharmacist with submission of prior authorization requests to help facilitate medication approval through insurance. This involves communication with Lee Physician Clinics and insurance companies, managing work queues, reviewing patients' charts for disease states and labs associated with prescribed medications, drafting appeal letters, recommending covered alternatives, pending prescriptions for prescribers, and creating telephone encounters for documentation in patients' charts. This position has limited direct patient contact and no dispensing or preparation of medications. The goal is to ensure medication approval in a timely manner to avoid delays in patient treatment.
Requirements
- Educational Requirement: High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience Requirement: Two years of Pharmacy Technician experience preferred.
- Licenses Required: Two years of hospital pharmacy experience required; Registered Pharmacy Technician with Florida Department of Health required; CphT (Certified Pharmacy Technician) with national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required.
- Additional Requirements: Knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology, data entry, and ability to cope with confrontation.
