About the role
The Wound Care RN (also referred to as a Wound Care, Ostomy, or Continence Nurse – WOC) specializes in assessing and treating skin breakdown and wounds in a clinic setting. You will be consulted during a patient’s hospital stay for wounds or pressure injuries, as well as for ostomy care. The role involves determining the proper course of treatment and coordinating with community services to ensure ongoing patient care.
Responsibilities
- Assess and document the condition of patients' wounds and evaluate the effectiveness of wound treatments.
- Apply dressings and treatments to wounds, ensuring proper techniques to promote healing and prevent infection.
- Provide comprehensive patient care, including inpatient and outpatient wound, ostomy, and hyperbaric treatment.
- Educate patients and their families about wound care techniques, ostomy care, and continence management.
- Track the progress of wound healing, modify care plans as needed, ensure follow-up care, and provide emotional support for patients managing chronic wounds or ostomies.
- Implement infection control measures and educate staff on proper wound care protocols and internal policies.
- Stay up to date on the latest wound care techniques, products, and research; participate in continuing education and professional development.

Requirements
- Current and valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the state.
- BLS certification upon hire and maintained thereafter.
- Previous Acute Care hospital experience preferred.
- Previous Wound Care knowledge and/or experience preferred (1 year).
- Wound Care Certification required within the first year of hire.
- Wound, Ostomy, Continence (WOC) or Wound Care Certification (WCC) Board Certification preferred.
