About the Organization
Established in 1961, St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tucson is home to the Carondelet Neurological Institute and the Carondelet Joint Replacement Center. The hospital offers advanced care that includes a Level I Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and spacious and comfortable labor and delivery units. Additional services include high-quality care in programs such as cardiology, orthopedics, stroke, and emergency medicine.
Responsibilities
- Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols of the healthcare organization.
- Implements and monitors patient care plans.
- Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
- Serves as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
- Notes and carries out physician and nursing orders.
- Assesses and coordinates patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
Assessment
- Uses a systematic, dynamic way to collect and analyze data about a patient, including physiological, psychological, sociocultural, spiritual, economic, and lifestyle factors.
- Performs initial assessment, re-assessment, and focused assessment based on patient condition, setting, and population.
Problem Identification
- Makes clinical judgments about the patient’s response to actual or potential health conditions or needs.
Planning and Outcomes
- Sets measurable and achievable short- and long-range goals in collaboration with the patient and family.
- Documents assessment data, problem identification, and goals in the patient’s care plan.
- Establishes daily goals with the patient and family.
- Formulates a plan of care and handles transition or discharge planning.
Implementation
- Implements nursing care according to the care plan to ensure continuity of care for the patient during hospitalization and in preparation for discharge.
- Ensures patient safety.
- Administers medication and provides ordered treatments.
- Provides patient and family education.
- Documents care in the healthcare record.
Evaluation
- Continuously evaluates the patient’s status and the effectiveness of nursing care, modifying the care plan as needed.
Care Coordination
- Manages and corrects the sequence, timing, and effectiveness of patient care from admission to discharge through delegation, supervision, and prioritization.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. Continuing education requirements as defined within the CARE program.
- Experience: One (1) year as an RN.
- Licensure/Certifications:
- Valid current Arizona Nursing License or compact state license and ability to become Arizona Licensed in 30 days.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association and others as required by individual department.
Preferred Requirements
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- Licensure/Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) or others as required by individual department.
