Registered Nurse - Telemetry

About the Role

The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible and accountable for prescribing, delegating, and coordinating all nursing care as defined by The New York State Nursing Practice Act. This role focuses on helping each patient achieve their optimum health potential within the framework of the nursing process, specifically for Adult Medical/Surgical patients aged 18 years and older.

Responsibilities

• Assessment
  • Assesses patient’s physical, social, behavioral, and mental status through direct observation, interview, and medical record review.
  • Utilizes observational skills to assess patient’s needs.
  • Documents a nursing assessment including psychosocial, environmental factors, educational level, and needs.
  • Obtains and reviews available data from other members of the health team (e.g., medical/surgical history, physical exam, mental status, therapist reports, and community referrals).
  • Identifies medical problems resulting from mental illness and medication use.
  • Communicates findings with other members of the health team (e.g., Social Worker, Case Managers, Therapist, Physician).
• Planning
  • Identifies and addresses needs for admission based on acute medical/surgical diagnoses and presenting physical/psychological symptoms.
  • Identifies and addresses patient level of education and learning needs.
  • Makes appropriate referrals to other disciplines and documents them.
• Intervention/Implementation
  • Manages clinical skills in providing nursing care, including:
    • Identification of symptoms.
    • Management of the disease entity.
    • Treatment modalities.
    • Administration of medications.
  • Intervenes appropriately in medical/surgical emergencies utilizing non-violent crisis intervention.
  • Utilizes infection control procedures and collaborates with the infection control department.
  • Practices infection control: personal hygiene, hand washing, and dress code.
  • Provides for psychosocial and educational needs of all medical/surgical patients.
  • Provides health teaching and medication instructions.
  • Ensures all procedures are performed based on established standards of care.
  • Demonstrates competency in performing all procedures within the scope of practice.
  • Investigates and communicates all required information regarding unusual occurrences or patient care incidents.
  • Acts as a patient advocate.
• Evaluation
  • Revises the patient’s plan of care based on evaluation of interventions and expected outcomes in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
• Experience: Minimum one (1) year of acute care nursing experience preferred.
• Licenses and Certifications:
  • Current NY State RN License required.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required.
• Knowledge and Skills:
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

• Involves standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and bending.

Pay

The salary range and/or hourly rate is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant. Several factors may be considered when determining base salary and/or rate (e.g., site, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget, and internal equity).
