Registered Nurse Surgery Center

Full-time Registered Nurse position in our Garden Grove, CA surgery center.

Schedule

• Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts
• Scheduled start time varies from 6:00am–7:30am
• Must be available to work at least 1 Saturday per month

Pay

Hourly rate: $39 – $76, depending on work location, qualifications, education, experience, skills, and competencies.

Purpose and Scope

Supports the organization’s mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy. Adheres to the organization’s compliance program, including all regulatory and policy requirements. Provides direct nursing care pre-, during, and post-procedure under the direction of the Facility Manager, Director of Nursing, and/or Charge Registered Nurse, utilizing standard nursing techniques to assist the physician in achieving optimal patient outcomes following facility policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Quality

• Supports and drives organizational quality standards through meeting regulatory and accrediting body requirements and practicing Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), including use of CQI tools
• Assists with implementation of organizational quality goals and facility-specific action plans
• Ensures outstanding quality of patient care as defined by organizational quality goals
• Addresses and acts on adverse events and action thresholds in collaboration with facility management
• Maintains integrity of medical records and other administrative and operational records
• Complies with all data collection and auditing activities
• Maintains facility environmental integrity and safety

Patient Care

• Obtains necessary medical history, discusses procedures, answers questions, and performs nursing assessments on the day of the procedure
• Provides education to patients and families regarding post-procedure care of vascular access
• Monitors patient condition before, during, and after the procedure, especially for patients receiving moderate sedation and contrast media injections
• Acts as a resource for patient concerns and questions
• Completes accurate documentation of patient information from admission to discharge
• Confirms written orders, consents, and lab work are completed and documented per facility policies
• Prepares and delivers lab requisitions, reports, and forwards lab results to appropriate physicians
• Maintains competency with emergency operational procedures, initiates CPR, and applies emergency measures as needed
• Administers medications and IV moderate sedation per physician’s orders, complying with organizational, federal, state, and local regulations
• Acts as scrub technologist to assist physicians during procedures, maintaining sterile technique
• Assists with patient workflow, including transporting patients as needed
• Performs point-of-care laboratory testing per physician’s orders and regulatory compliance
• Performs IV insertion per physician orders
• Performs additional tasks as designated by physicians, practicing in compliance with state regulations

Physician Support

• Provides regular and effective communication with physicians as needed
• Attends and participates in CQI meetings with physicians, reporting on assigned topics
• Assists facility management in verifying necessary instruments and equipment
• Assists in completing and reporting state-required adverse event reports per organizational policy

Maintenance and Technical

• Operates facility equipment (e.g., patient monitors, defibrillators, medical recording devices, sterilizers, computers) safely and efficiently
• Inspects and reports malfunctions or maintenance needs for vascular access equipment
• Inspects facility operating systems, including temperature checks and physical structure, reporting issues to the Facility Manager
• Ensures a clean, safe, and sanitary environment at all times
• Immediately addresses blood spills according to organizational bloodborne pathogen control policies

Administrative

• Assists with efficient utilization of medication, laboratory, inventory, supplies, and equipment to meet supply cost goals
• May assist in developing and revising facility policies and procedures for continuous process improvement
• Participates in CQI activities, including monthly reports and meetings
• Maintains medication supply, including inventory control, checking for expired medications, and recording controlled substances per legal requirements
• Completes usage logs for medications and records drug disposal per local, state, and federal law
• Maintains facility supply inventory, including ordering and restocking as needed
• Examines and stocks emergency equipment, including the crash cart, on a regular basis
• Completes medical records accurately and in compliance with organizational policies prior to patient discharge
• Performs regular chart audits
• May participate in facility regulatory and accreditation surveys and action plans
• Completes state-required records for implanted devices accurately and timely
• Participates in staff meetings, training, and orientation as assigned
• Complies with HIPAA policies regarding patient information and medical records
• Assists with various projects as assigned by direct supervisor

Requirements

• High School Diploma required; Associate’s Degree desirable; Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (R.N.)
• Current appropriate state licensure and ACLS certification required
• 4–6 years of related experience preferred
• Experience in Office-Based Surgical Centers, Ambulatory Surgical Centers, Vascular Access, Cardiac Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, ICU/CCU, or emergency department preferred
• Proficient in IV insertion and cardiac rhythm recognition
• Proficient in computer use, including Microsoft Office and medical database software
• Certified in BLS and ACLS

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• Day-to-day work includes desk and computer tasks, interaction with patients, staff, and physicians
• Provides direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation; equipment aids or coworkers may assist
• Requires frequent prolonged standing and bending
• May occasionally move patients and equipment up to 200 lbs with assistance (two-person assist program and material assist devices available)
• Work environment is temperature-controlled with moderate noise levels
• May be exposed to infectious or contagious diseases, materials, and radiation
• May require wearing protective gear in procedure rooms for extended periods
