About the Role

Supports the organization’s mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy. Adheres to the organization’s Compliance Program, including following all regulatory and policy requirements. Provides direct nursing care pre, during, and post-procedure under the direction of the Facility Manager, Director of Nursing, and/or Charge Registered Nurse, utilizing standard nursing techniques to assist the physician in achieving optimum patient outcomes following facility policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Quality:
  • Supports and drives organizational quality standards through meeting regulatory and accrediting body requirements and practicing Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), including use of CQI tools.
  • Assists with implementation of organizational quality goals and facility-specific action plans.
  • Ensures outstanding quality of patient care as defined by organizational quality goals.
  • Addresses and acts on adverse events and action thresholds in collaboration with facility management.
  • Maintains integrity of medical records and other administrative and operational records.
  • Complies with all data collection and auditing activities.
  • Maintains facility environmental integrity and safety.
• Patient Care:
  • Obtains necessary medical history, discusses procedures, answers questions, and performs nursing assessments on the day of the procedure.
  • Provides education to patients and families regarding post-procedure care of vascular access.
  • Monitors patient condition before, during, and after the procedure, especially for patients undergoing moderate sedation and contrast media injections.
  • Acts as a resource for patient concerns and communicates issues to facility management as needed.
  • Completes accurate documentation of patient information from admission to discharge.
  • Confirms written orders, consents, and lab work are completed and documented per facility policies.
  • Maintains competency with emergency operational procedures and initiates CPR and emergency measures as needed.
  • Administers medications and IV moderate sedation per physician’s orders in compliance with regulations.
  • Acts as scrub technologist to assist the physician during procedures, maintaining sterile technique.
  • Assists with patient workflow, including transporting patients as needed.
  • Performs point-of-care laboratory testing per physician’s orders and regulatory compliance.
  • Performs IV insertion per physician orders.
  • Performs additional tasks as designated by the physician in compliance with state regulations.
• Physician Support:
  • Provides regular and effective communication with physicians as needed.
  • Attends and participates in CQI meetings with physicians, reporting on assigned topics.
  • May assist facility management in verifying necessary instruments and equipment.
  • Assists in completing and reporting state-required adverse event reports per organizational policy.
• Maintenance and Technical:
  • Operates facility equipment (e.g., patient monitors, defibrillators, medical recording devices, sterilizers, computers) safely and efficiently.
  • Inspects facility equipment and reports malfunctions or maintenance needs.
  • Inspects facility operating systems, including temperature checks and physical structure, reporting issues to the Facility Manager.
  • Ensures a clean, safe, and sanitary environment at all times.
  • Addresses blood spills immediately according to organizational Bloodborne Pathogen Control Policies.
• Administrative:
  • Assists with efficient utilization of medications, laboratory supplies, inventory, and equipment to meet supply cost goals.
  • May assist in developing and revising facility policies and procedures for continuous process improvement.
  • Assists with CQI activities, including monthly reports and meetings.
  • Maintains medication supply, including inventory control, checking for expired medications, and recording controlled substances as required by law.
  • Completes usage logs for medications and records of drug disposal per legal requirements.
  • Maintains facility supply inventory, including ordering and restocking supplies.
  • Examines and stocks emergency equipment, including the crash cart, on a regular basis.
  • Completes medical records accurately and in compliance with organizational policies prior to patient discharge.
  • Performs regular chart audits.
  • May participate in facility regulatory and accreditation surveys and action plans.
  • Completes state-required records for implanted devices accurately and timely.
  • Participates in staff meetings, training, and orientation as assigned.
  • Complies with HIPAA policies regarding patient information and medical records.
  • Assists with various projects as assigned by a direct supervisor.

Requirements

• High School Diploma required; Associate’s Degree desirable; Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred.
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (R.N.).
• Current appropriate state licensure and ACLS certification required.
• 4–6 years of related experience preferred.
• Experience in Office-Based Surgical Centers, Ambulatory Surgical Centers, Vascular Access, Cardiac Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, ICU/CCU, or emergency department preferred.
• Proficient in IV insertion and cardiac rhythm recognition.
• Experience with medical database software.
• Certified in BLS and ACLS.
• Proficient in the use of computers and software such as Microsoft Office.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

The role involves direct patient care, including heavy lifting and moving patients, with assistance available for loads up to 200 lbs. Frequent prolonged standing and bending are required. The work environment is characteristic of a healthcare facility with controlled air temperature and moderate noise levels. Exposure to infectious diseases, contagious materials, and radiation may occur, requiring the use of protective gear in procedure rooms for extended periods.
