About the role

Provides direct nursing care to patients in a healthcare facility. Responsible for preparing equipment and aiding physicians during treatment and examination of patients. May lead or mentor lower level team members.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate advanced skills in conducting patient physical assessments, coordinating complex medical testing, and effectively communicating findings to physicians to support the development and implementation of treatment plans.
  • Safely administer ordered medications and injections, ensuring full compliance with clinic protocols and state regulations.
  • Ensure the smooth operation of clinic flow by collaborating closely with the assigned scheduler to manage and schedule referrals, follow-up appointments, and diagnostic tests efficiently.
  • Effectively triage patient calls and work in close collaboration with call center team members to address patient needs promptly.
  • Assist with and arrange the necessary paperwork and logistical details for hospital admissions, as directed by the medical provider.
  • Follow up on diagnostic tests and laboratory results and ensure these are promptly reported to the medical provider for review and action.
  • Process patient referrals to appropriate specialists as ordered by the physician, while actively collaborating with other members of the healthcare team.
  • Provide comprehensive education to patients and their family members regarding gastrointestinal diseases, preparation for procedures, and their ongoing care plans.
  • Perform and assist with specialized gastroenterology procedures, including ARM, Esophageal Manometry, Digitrapper, and Pill Cam, strictly adhering to established competency guidelines.
  • Perform all other nursing duties as assigned, always operating within the legal scope of professional nursing practice.

Requirements

  • Possesses an active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Texas Board of Nursing or a valid compact state license.
  • Demonstrates the ability to function strictly within the required nursing process as defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
  • Consistently supports the organization's mission, vision, and patient promise across all professional interactions.
  • Exhibits strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with patients, families, and staff.
  • Applies analytical thinking to clinical information, using sound logic to coordinate patient care within scheduling constraints and manage emergent requirements efficiently.
  • Meets all clinic training and competency requirements, particularly for advanced GI procedures.
  • Five (5) years of professional nursing experience is required.
  • Current Texas RN license required.
  • BLS/CPR Certification required.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Nursing is required.
