About the role
The Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with the Physician. The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing care process consistent with their license and/or certification, including initiation of culturally competent continuum of care across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. The Registered Nurse oversees coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care and ensures its consistency with the medical treatment plan.
The patient care process includes:
- Assessment – Identification, gathering, and organization of subjective and objective data pertaining to the patient, family, or significant other, including physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural aspects.
- Planning – Identification of actual or potential problems and desired outcomes (goals) resulting in a documented plan of care that guides the patient, family, significant other, and interdisciplinary team.
- Intervention – Implementation of specific interventions or orders consistent with the plan of care and medical treatment plan.
- Evaluation – Determination of the effectiveness of interventions in achieving the plan of care, including reassessment and revisions as needed.
Based on assessment findings, the Registered Nurse:
- Identifies and prioritizes patient problems relative to biophysical, psychological, environmental, self-care, educational, and social status.
- Establishes goals consistent with identified problems to guide patient care and health promotion.
- Provides education aligned with identified problems and goals to empower patients.
The Registered Nurse may perform Limited Laboratory Services, including patient identification, specimen collection, sample processing, quality control testing, instrument maintenance, monitoring and reporting test results (including critical values), and maintaining competency in these tasks.
The Registered Nurse actively supports performance improvement initiatives, provides leadership to the patient care team, and participates in educational activities for continued professional growth.
Responsibilities
- Utilize the nursing care process (assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation) within scope of practice and knowledge base.
- Document all aspects of patient care, including assessment, plan, intervention, and evaluation.
- Administer patient care activities according to standards, procedural guidelines, and organizational policy.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives and provide leadership to the patient care team.
- Engage in educational activities to maintain and enhance professional and personal growth.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey or a current multi-state license.
- American Heart Association BLS certification required upon hire or transfer.
- Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at hire; training provided within 30-60 days for incumbents.
Specialty-Specific Requirements
Emergency Room (Mainland/Satellite Hammonton)
- 2 years medical/surgical and/or emergency room experience preferred.
- ACLS required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
- Minimum of 8 contact hours of education annually in basic trauma assessment, intervention, and stabilization.
- Minimum of 8 contact hours of education annually in basic stroke assessment, intervention, and NIHSS (to be completed within 6 months of hire or transfer and maintained thereafter).
- ATCN or TNCC required within 24 months of hire or transfer.
- PALS or ENPC required within 12 months of hire or transfer.
- CPI certification required by 10/31/25 for existing team members; new team members have 1 year from hire or transfer date.
Emergency Room (City)
- 2 years medical/surgical and/or emergency room experience preferred.
- ACLS required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
- ATCN or TNCC required within 24 months of hire or transfer.
- Minimum of 8 contact hours of education annually in basic trauma assessment, intervention, and stabilization.
- Minimum of 8 contact hours of education annually in basic stroke assessment, intervention, and NIHSS (to be completed within 6 months of hire or transfer and maintained thereafter).

3 Harmony Trauma
- 2 years medical/surgical experience preferred; critical care experience preferred.
- ACLS required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
- ATCN required within 3 years of hire or transfer.
- NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education annually in basic stroke assessment or intervention by 5/31/25 for existing team members; new team members have 1 year from hire or transfer date.
3 Harmony ICU / Intensive Care Unit (ICU/CTICU)
- 2 years medical/surgical experience preferred; critical care experience preferred.
- ACLS required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
- NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education annually in basic stroke assessment or intervention by 5/31/25 for existing team members; new team members have 1 year from hire or transfer date.
- CCRN preferred.
Cardiovascular ICU (CVU)
- 2 years critical care and Cardiovascular ICU experience preferred.
- ACLS required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
- NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education annually in basic stroke assessment or intervention by 5/31/25 for existing team members; new team members have 1 year from hire or transfer date.
- CCRN preferred.
Heart and Vascular Unit (HVU)
- 2 years telemetry experience preferred.
- ACLS required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
- NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education annually in basic stroke assessment or intervention by 5/31/25 for existing team members; new team members have 1 year from hire or transfer date.
3 Harbor (PCU)
- 2 years telemetry experience preferred.
- NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education annually in basic stroke assessment or intervention by 5/31/25 for existing team members; new team members have 1 year from hire or transfer date.
- ACLS preferred.
3 Pines / 3 Central / 1 South / 1 Meadow / 3 Meadow / 4 South / 4 Meadow / 5 Harmony / 4 Michigan / 4 Harmony / 6 Harmony / 7 Harmony (Medical/Surgical)
- Medical/surgical experience preferred.
- NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education annually in basic stroke assessment or intervention by 5/31/25 for existing team members (where specified); new team members have 1 year from hire or transfer date.
- ACLS preferred or required within 1 year (varies by unit).
Med Surg/Cardiac/Stroke Care (2 West / 2 Pines)
- Medical/surgical experience preferred.
- NIHSS and minimum of 8 contact hours of education annually in basic stroke assessment or intervention by 5/31/25 for existing team members; new team members have 1 year from hire or transfer date.
- ACLS preferred.
Pre-Admission Testing (PAT)
- Medical/surgical experience preferred.
Operating Room
- Medical/surgical, critical care, and operating room experience preferred.
- Effective 1/1/25, all new OR team members must scrub and/or learn to scrub during orientation within six months.
- ACLS required by 12/31/24 for City OR and 4/25/25 for Mainland OR.
- CNOR preferred.
PACU / Same Day Surgery / Recovery Room
- Critical care or PACU experience required.
- ACLS required at time of hire or transfer.
- PALS required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
- CPAN preferred.
Interventional Radiology
- 2 years medical/surgical experience required; interventional radiology and critical care experience preferred.
- ACLS required at time of hire or transfer.
- PALS required within 1 year of hire or transfer.
Cath Lab (Cath Lab Holding, Electrophysiology (EP))
- Critical care, emergency room, cath-lab, or telemetry experience preferred.
- ACLS required at time of hire or transfer.
Non-Invasive Lab (MLD)
- 2 years telemetry experience required.
- ACLS required at time of hire or transfer.
Endoscopy
- 2 years medical/surgical experience required; endoscopy, telemetry, and critical care experience preferred.
- ACLS required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
