Position Summary
This position coordinates total nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching, acts as a patient advocate and works as part of a team with ancillary and non-nursing departments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assesses the patient's condition and nursing care needs.
- Sets goals and prescribes appropriate nursing interventions to meet physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative needs of patients.
- Develops individual nursing care plans.
- Implements care plans and makes revisions as needed.
- Evaluates patient care outcomes.
- Collaborates with physicians and other hospital employees.
- Administers medications, treatments and therapies.
- Communicates with patients and oversees provision of care.
- Provides patients and/or family with instruction and education relevant to condition.
- Accurately documents nursing observations, assessments, medications, treatments, and other care given.
Additional Information
- Maintains facility equipment, supplies and work areas.
- Aids in the orientation of new employees.
- Captures and supervises activities of employees and department operations.
- Participates in performance/process improvement activities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Experience: 1 year or less.
- Certifications: BCLS upon completion of hospital orientation; ACLS and PALS within six months of hire or transfer date to position.
- Licenses: Current RN license in state of practice.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

- Works in well-lit, ventilated and climate-controlled office environment with routine office equipment; some equipment has moving mechanical parts.
- In hospital environment, may be exposed to hazards and unusual elements, which may include but are not limited to bloodborne pathogens and / or contagious illnesses, toxic chemicals, and biohazardous materials which may require extensive safety precautions and the use of protective equipment.
- Noise level in the work environment is typical for an office and/or hospital environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum overnight travel (up to 10%) by land and/or air.
