MaineHealth’s Virtual Nursing team is seeking a Full Time Registered Nurse (RN) to join their innovative virtual care program. This hybrid role provides virtual discharge education and support to patients, ensuring a smooth and safe transition from hospital to home. The RN will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, review discharge instructions and medications, and use telehealth technology to deliver high-quality patient education.
About the Role
The Virtual Nurse will be a member of a new team at MaineHealth responsible for supporting hospital-based care teams, focused on improving quality, patient and family experience, bedside care team experience, and improving hospital efficiency of care. The Virtual Nurse will use virtual communication channels including synchronous video conferencing, secure asynchronous chat, and telephonic tools to interact with patients admitted to a MaineHealth hospital. The Virtual Nurse is also responsible for providing patients with virtual health assessments and treatment solutions through virtual rounds.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure a smooth and safe transition from hospital to home.
- Review discharge instructions and medications for patients.
- Use telehealth technology to deliver high-quality patient education.
- Interact with patients admitted to a MaineHealth hospital using virtual communication channels.
- Provide patients with virtual health assessments and treatment solutions through virtual rounds.
- Collaborate with clinical staff and other care team members across MaineHealth to meet the diverse and continually changing challenges of the healthcare environment.
Requirements
- Demonstrates the skills necessary to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Comfortable with technology and proficiency in ACLS, PALS, and EPIC systems (preferred).
Qualifications
- Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Maine.
- BLS certification is required.
- At least 5 years of Acute Care RN work experience.
- Evidence of 10 hours of ongoing education per year.
- Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Must matriculate to a BSN program within 1 year of hire with completion attained within 5 years of hire.
Skills
Required: Demonstrates the skills necessary to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Preferred: Proficiency in the use of ACLS, PALS, and EPIC systems.

Pay
The base range is $37.09 to $50.17 per hour. Compensation for part-time positions is determined on a prorated basis consistent with the scheduled hours and applicable full-time equivalent (FTE).
Schedule
This position requires a Full Time schedule (Monday through Friday 1130-2000).
