About the Role

As a Trauma PCU RN at Banner Desert Medical Center, you will work directly within the Trauma space of a Level 1 Trauma designated hospital, providing continuity of care for patients who typically stay longer than on other trauma units. You will join a multidisciplinary team focused on strong teamwork, leadership, and exceptional patient care. This role offers the opportunity to work on a 36-bed trauma specialty unit, delivering specialized care for high-acuity adult trauma patients in private, remotely monitored rooms. Banner Children’s Hospital at Desert, located within the same campus, provides state-of-the-art pediatric care with over 200 beds, a 76-bed NICU, a 24-bed PICU, six pediatric operating rooms, and a 22-bed Emergency Department. The facility utilizes advanced technology, including iCare ICU monitoring and robotic surgery, and offers specialized pediatric services in rehab, radiology, oncology, and hematology.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
• Review patient history and physical with patient/family, ensuring completion within appropriate timeframes.
• Review diagnostics and laboratory data, reporting abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
• Complete assessments and reassessments according to patient needs and organizational policies.
• Formulate and implement a plan of care, including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and input from patients, families, and the healthcare team.
• Set realistic, measurable goals in collaboration with patients and families, considering physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational needs.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to review and revise the plan of care based on changing patient needs.
• Provide direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of healthcare team activities in compliance with policies, standards of care, and regulatory requirements.
• Delegate appropriately and provide nursing supervision for care delivered by other licensed nurses and personnel.
• Promote continuity of care through accurate and complete communication with other caregivers.
• Evaluate patient and family responses to care and teaching, revising the plan of care as needed.
• Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record, ensuring legibility, timeliness, and compliance with policies.
• Provide care based on the best available evidence and participate in research activities within clinical practice.
• Participate in unit or facility shared leadership, education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.
• Contribute to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care.
• Actively participate in improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, including involvement in professional organizations.
• Interact with staff across departments, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to support patient care.
• Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to changes in health status.

Requirements

• Current, valid RN license in the state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for the current state of practice.
• BLS certification required; additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.
• Experience in the clinical area for which you are applying is desired.
• Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of work, demonstrated through annual validations.
• For Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions: Minimum of one year of experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area.
• For Banner Registry and Travel physician practice positions: Minimum of one year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a physician practice or acute care setting.
• For Home Health settings: Ability to operate a personal vehicle with a valid driver’s license and active auto insurance coverage.
• For positions at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, BUMG, BUMCT, or BUMCS in Behavioral Health clinical settings serving children: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained during employment; Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
• For Banner Home Care AZ: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained during employment.
• For Banner McKee Senior Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit: Colorado Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained during employment.
• For Banner Staffing (BSS) Behavioral Health roles in Arizona: State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained during employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
• Professional certification in a relevant specialty preferred.

Schedule

• 3x12-hour shifts (Night: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) with weekend rotations utilizing a self-scheduling tool.
• 18% night shift differential.
• Flat rate $3/hour weekend shift differential.

Pay

Eligible for a $10,000 sign-on bonus with 12 months of RN experience; requires up to a 1-year commitment. New Graduate Nurses with less than 12 months of experience are encouraged to explore opportunities under the "New Nurse Experience" job type.
