About Us

Texas Children’s Urgent Care offers high-quality, efficient and affordable after-hours patient care in nine convenient community locations across the greater Houston area, with additional service in Austin, Texas. Staffed by board-certified pediatricians who have privileges at Texas Children’s Hospital, our Urgent Care team diagnoses and treats a wide variety of common pediatric ailments, illnesses, and conditions, including asthma, strep throat, fever, minor burns, influenza, ear infections, and allergic reactions. We also provide procedures such as antibiotic injections, breathing treatments, fracture care and splinting, IV fluids, lab services, laceration repair, and x-rays on-site.

About the Role

We are searching for a part-time (24 hours per week) Registered Nurse for our Urgent Care team. In this position, you will work in a fast-paced setting, gathering information, assessing, and providing direct care to patients while collaborating with other members of the healthcare team to render age-appropriate care.

Clinic Hours: Open 7 days a week
Monday–Friday: 12:00 PM–10:00 PM
Saturday–Sunday: 10:00 AM–8:00 PM

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the collection of patient/family data, including biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, and environmental information per site protocol.
  • Collects and documents vital signs, height/weight, and reason for visit; graphs data per site protocol.
  • Documents current medications, allergies, and other information per site protocol with 100% accuracy.
  • Provides general patient care, including preparing patients for examination and assisting providers during treatments, examinations, and testing as directed.
  • Completes treatments as directed by the provider within the scope of the site.
  • Administers medication and immunizations as directed by the physician per site protocol; documents administration in the medical record.
  • Reports all medication and immunization errors to the supervisor immediately.
  • Provides patient/family education as instructed by the physician or site protocol and documents such education in the medical record.
  • Coordinates referrals, ensuring families have contact information and necessary documentation.
  • Triages presenting patient complaints and phone calls per site protocol; documents all clinical patient phone calls per organization recommendations.
  • Collects specimens and performs laboratory tests, verifying provider orders and following site protocols for reporting and documenting results.
  • Demonstrates service philosophies to patients and families, including identifying self, explaining the visit process, and providing information regarding visit length.

As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Nursing or Associate's degree in a related field accepted by the Texas Board of Nursing for obtaining and maintaining an RN license.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

Qualifications

  • RN - Licensed Registered Nurse by the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support certification by the American Heart Association.
