Registered Nurse (RN) - Special Care Unit
This is a full-time, 36 hour/week, day shift Registered Nurse 2 position open to candidates with greater than 1 year of RN work experience.
For a limited time, MaineHealth is offering a $10,000 sign-on bonus for all eligible Registered Nurses with 0-2 years of RN experience and $20,000 for Registered Nurses with greater than 2 years of RN work experience. Eligible candidates must be hired (offer accepted) into a full- or part-time RN position. Bonus amount is prorated for part-time hires; per diem hires are ineligible. Current MaineHealth member employees are ineligible; former MaineHealth members are ineligible until greater than 6 months separation from employment.
About the role
The Special Care Unit is an 8-bed ICU/Step-Down Unit where nurses conduct complex assessments and provide intensive therapies and interventions to a variety of patients, including those with acute and chronic respiratory failure, cardiac events, sepsis, metabolic disorders, and complex surgical recoveries. This department features a collaborative team environment with ancillary departments and physicians/surgeons.
The MaineHealth Registered Nurse RN II role is competent in their clinical role and demonstrates the ability to care for most patients assigned. While not able to care for every patient type within their area of hire, nurses show how to obtain appropriate resources to develop required skills and knowledge over time. This level includes automatic advancement after 1 year as an RN I, provided the nurse is in good standing and meets RN I requirements.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient outcomes.
- Collaborate, delegate, and communicate with members of the healthcare team to ensure optimal care.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred.
- Current applicable state(s) license as a Registered Professional Nurse.
- Current BLS certification required or must obtain within 30 days of start date.
- Other certifications may be required specific to area of practice or in accordance with Department guidelines.
- One year of recent RN experience.
- Automatic advancement from RN I level if all onboarding requirements are complete, including the New Grad Residency (where available).

Pay
The pay range for this position is $37.09 to $50.17 per hour. Compensation for part-time positions is determined on a prorated basis consistent with the scheduled hours and applicable full-time equivalent (FTE).
