About the role

Banner Heart Hospital, one of the largest free-standing heart hospitals in the nation, is seeking a dedicated RN to join our Open Heart Surgery team. Our facility is distinguished as a nationally Accredited Heart Failure Institute by the Healthcare Accreditation Colloquium and houses a 6-suite CVOR including 1 angio and 1 hybrid suite. The CVOR supports a wide range of cardiac and vascular surgeries and operates with on-call availability during off-hours, holidays, and weekends. Staff may also float to sister facilities as needed.

Shift details

Full-time, day shift Monday–Friday with a 6:00 a.m. start. On-call, weekend, and administrative call required. Differential pay includes an 18% night shift differential and a flat $3/hour weekend differential.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate patient and physician needs for specialty procedure-based departments while providing direct nursing care.
• Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document nursing care in accordance with organizational policies and professional standards.
• Serve as a liaison with physicians, allied health personnel, and vendors to identify and prioritize supply, instrument, and equipment needs.
• Review future schedules to prepare required equipment and resolve supply/equipment conflicts.
• Oversee quality, risk management, safety, and nursing standards; act as a role model and resource for clinical competency.
• Formulate and implement patient care plans through direct care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the health-care team.
• Delegate appropriately and provide nursing supervision to licensed and unlicensed staff.
• Promote continuity of care by accurately communicating patient status to other caregivers.
• Ensure efficient and cost-effective use of department resources by coordinating supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures.
• Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and collaborate with leadership on operational and capital inventory needs.
• Support staff development through precepting, mentoring, and orientation as appropriate.
• Communicate with scheduling to clarify unique procedures, protocols, and inventory descriptions.
• May assist in determining par levels for automatic reordering based on scheduled procedures, historical usage, availability, and product acquisition time.
• Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, vendors, and external contacts.

Requirements

• Current, valid RN license in state of practice.
• BLS certification.
• Minimum of three years of related clinical experience.
• Maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area with annual validations.
• Demonstrate commitment to professional improvement and practices that support the budgetary plan.
• Exhibit critical thinking and leadership abilities.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Professional certification.
• Additional related education and/or experience.
