Job Description

The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse who assists patients in achieving, maintaining, and restoring health. This role adheres to the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an NLN School of Nursing
  • Current unrestricted Mississippi State licensure as a Registered Nurse
  • All RNs are required to complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer
  • RNs working in certain specialty areas are required to complete and maintain specific certifications
  • A minimum of one (1) year of inpatient clinical experience, preferred
  • Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation

Experience

  • Experienced in inpatient settings, preferred
  • Experience within the past five (5) years, or evidence of successful refresher program

Physical Demands

  • Moderately active work involving sitting, moving about the office and facility, and traveling within the SRHS service area
  • Exerting a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body
  • Using many physical motions in performing daily work activities; exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues which may carry the hazard of infectious disease
  • Repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, and fingers while operating standard office equipment such as a computer keyboard
  • Close visual and acuity needed to perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction; ability to make fine discriminations in sound
  • Ability to work extended periods without experiencing undue fatigue
  • Ability to work schedules assigned with the understanding that changes may be instituted according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts, or weekends

  • Demonstrate keen mental faculties and assessment and decision-making abilities
  • Demonstrate superior communication skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Show emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels
  • Work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations

Special Demands

  • Possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette
  • Proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.)
  • MS Outlook and Word proficiency
  • Apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages
