Registered Nurse (RN) - PACU

The Registered Nurse is responsible for the provision of nursing care based on standards of care and professional nursing practice; accountable for the outcomes of nursing care delivered.

Responsibilities

• Monitor post-operative patients' levels of consciousness during recovery from anesthesia.
• Measure and record patients' vital signs.
• Closely observe patients for signs of side effects of anesthesia medication.
• Treat pain, nausea, and other post-operative symptoms of anesthesia.
• Update charts, patient files, and medical records.
• Collaborate with the medical team on post-operative patient care and facilitate timely specialized interventions.
• Provide comfort and reassurance to distressed post-operative patients and concerned family members.
• Educate patients and their families on post-surgery care, as well as answering questions.

Education

• Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) — Required
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) — Preferred
• Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) — Preferred

Experience

• Previous experience in PACU/OPS — Preferred
• Critical Care experience — Required

Skills

• Works with patients, families, physicians, and other health care providers

Licenses & Certifications

• Basic Life Support Certified (American Heart Association) — Required within 30 days of hire; recertification every two years required
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Certified (American Heart Association) — Preferred
• Registered Nurse license — South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation with South Carolina Board of Nursing
