Registered Nurse (RN) - PACU

About the role

Alliance Orthopedics is seeking a skilled and patient-focused Operating Room (OR) Nurse for the Recovery/Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at TeamMD in Millburn. This role involves delivering high-quality, post-operative care to patients emerging from anesthesia, monitoring and managing their physiological status, and ensuring a safe transition from the surgical suite to full recovery or discharge.

Responsibilities

• Proactively participate as a team member in support of the total post-anesthesia care process
• Identify and validate the patient and procedure performed using two patient identifiers
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to prepare the recovery room/PACU area according to patient, physician orders, and procedure requirements
• Provide comfort and reassurance to patients
• Demonstrate ongoing competencies with patient assessment and appropriate interventions when variances occur
• Maintain patient’s privacy and dignity
• Utilize the nursing process to perform safe and individualized nursing care in the immediate post-anesthesia period
• Administer medication(s) per physician orders
• Accurately comprehend and interpret physician orders and direction
• Work collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of patient care
• Monitor patient condition and maintain accurate documentation during the post-anesthesia period
• Report any abnormal observed complications to the anesthesia provider and physician
• Document patient-care records and other forms accurately, legibly, and in a timely manner, following policies and procedures
• Develop a plan of care based on patient needs, related to the procedure and type of anesthesia
• Assess the physical and emotional status of the patient in preparation for discharge
• Review post-procedure instructions, including medication reconciliation and follow-up physician appointments, with the patient and responsible adult
• Determine and document patient and responsible adult understanding of discharge instructions and indications for seeking emergent care
• Organize time, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management
• Assist or supervise patients with attire changes as necessary
• Use supplies economically and manage efficient turnover time to support cost containment
• Assist with supplies, drugs, and equipment inventories to maintain stock levels and availability
• Maintain order and cleanliness of the recovery room/PACU area
• Transport patients as needed, observing policies, procedures, and safety requirements
• Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned

Requirements

• Active RN license in New Jersey
• Current CLS, BLS, and PALS certifications
• 1-2+ years of operating room experience with orthopedic procedures
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
