Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) | Behavioral Health Unit

About the role

Location: Avera St Luke's Hospital. Worker Type: Regular. Work Shift: Rotating days/evenings/nights/weekends/holidays. The unit is a brand‑new 18‑bed behavioral health area with a collaborative care model involving doctors, nurses, behavioral health techs, counselors, and social workers. Responsibilities

• Provide patient care by reviewing physician prescriptions and communicating the nursing care plan to the health‑care team.
• Coordinate with other healthcare providers and confer with physicians.
• Develop nursing care plans: obtain medical histories, examine patients, document physical and psychological status, confer with family, establish nursing diagnosis, set objectives, define interventions, schedules, and timetables.
• Teach healthcare requirements: establish patient care goals, instruct patients/families on condition, medications, self‑care skills, answer questions, provide resources.
• Evaluate patient care: adhere to therapeutic standards, measure outcomes, review records, note changing conditions, re‑evaluate and modify care plans.
• Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy environment: follow infection‑control policies, medication administration/storage procedures, controlled substance regulations, organizational standards, and legal regulations; alert others to potential concerns.
• Document patient care services in patient and department records.
• Maintain patient care equipment: follow operating instructions, troubleshoot breakdowns, maintain supplies, perform preventive maintenance, call for repairs.
• Manage patient care supplies: check stock, anticipate needs, place and expedite orders, verify receipt, stock items.
• Maintain competence in nursing capabilities as outlined by leadership.

Requirements

• Ability to work the specified hours (rotating days/evenings/nights/weekends/holidays).
• Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties.
• Effective communication skills; ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) – active license in the state of practice (required).
• Preferred: 1‑3 years of experience working in a clinical environment.
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – active license in the state of practice (if applicable).

Pay

• Overall pay range: $24.50 – $48.50 per hour (actual rate dependent on experience).
