Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient care through the nursing process.
  • Collaborate with other professional disciplines.
  • Serve as a resource nurse.
  • Support the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Apply knowledge of patient’s age and cultural diversity.
  • Contribute to performance improvement techniques.

Requirements

  • Individualized orientation period of no less than 2 weeks and generally no greater than 3 months.
  • Ability to practice nursing as defined.
  • Utilize the nursing process in the provision of care.
  • Administer prescribed treatments, medications, and diagnostic tests.
  • Formulate a plan of care using the problem list.
  • Collaborate with other health care providers.
  • Provide education to patients and/or significant others.

Job Knowledge

Ability to practice nursing as described by the nursing process, including assessment, identification of nursing problems, implementation, and evaluation.

Collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.

Serves as a resource nurse when oriented and so directed.

Supports the organization’s mission, vision, and values.

Applies knowledge of patient’s age and cultural diversity, along with their spiritual and emotional needs into the provision of patient care.

Contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive outcomes in patient care.

Physical Requirements

  • Maintain good physical and emotional well-being.
  • Physical work requiring considerable amount of physical work.
  • Lifting and moving patients, pushing carts, wheelchairs, and other equipment.
  • Lifting or pushing up to 50 pounds.
  • Bend over to perform certain duties.
  • Maneuver throughout the halls, stairways, and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies.
  • Interpret environmental input requiring visual and auditory skills.
  • A significant amount of writing and computer entry is required.
  • Trips to various departments will be required.
  • Heavy exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients.
  • Minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.
  • Exposure to infectious wastes and body fluids may mandate the wearing of gloves, masks, gowns, and goggles.
