About the role

The New Graduate RN Residency Program at Banner Health has received the highest accreditation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Practice Transition Accreditation Program® (PTAP). The Banner Health New Nurse Experience (NNE) provides a collaborative learning environment where you can refine your nursing skills, enhance your knowledge, and transition from a new graduate to a fully competent, professional nurse at Banner Health.

This is a full-time Registered Nurse position that assists you in transitioning from a new graduate to a fully competent, professional nurse. Successful candidates will be placed in specific units at Banner Health facilities to be clinically mentored by unit staff and educators. We offer multiple Career Pathways and development opportunities to achieve your long-term career goals, including specialty units, leadership roles, and non-bedside nursing opportunities. The expectation is that you will stay on your NNE unit for at least 12 months to get a full and comprehensive training experience. Most new nurses will work three 12-hour shifts, including weekend and holiday rotations.

Requirements

• Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program
• Current BLS card (through either American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI) or ability to obtain certification before start date
• No more than 12 months of RN experience

• Active RN license
• Previous clinical healthcare experience
• BSN & MSN

Unit Overview

As a New Grad in our Telemetry unit focused on Observation status patients, you will be part of a fast-paced environment with a wide variety of patient illnesses. This area features a pace similar to the ED with diagnostic workups and care needs of the Telemetry setting. The wide variety develops a strong clinical foundation and knowledge as you work closely with physicians, case management, and experienced nurses. Patients admitted from the ED to the Observation unit require rapid evaluation, testing, and interventions to determine safe discharge or movement to inpatient units.

The 24-bed Observation Unit at Banner Boswell Medical Center has an outstanding multidisciplinary team that works together to provide excellent patient care. The range of clinical diagnoses and patient care provides an exceptional experience for nurses to develop and/or use every facet of their clinical knowledge. This position is for a full-time, day shift.

Responsibilities

• Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
• Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family and assures completion within appropriate timeframe.
• Reviews available information obtained by other health care team members and diagnostics/laboratory data, reporting abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
• Completes assessment and reassessments according to patient need and policy.
• Formulates a plan of care, including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and input from patient, family, and health team.
• Initiates a plan of care based on patient-specific needs and the medical plan of care, ensuring goals are realistic and measurable.
• Considers physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs in the plan of care.
• Plans care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and reviews/revises the plan based on changing patient needs.
• Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of health care team activities.
• Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, complying with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Delegates appropriately and provides nursing supervision for care provided by other licensed nurses and personnel.
• Promotes continuity of care by accurately communicating patient status to other caregivers.
• Evaluates patient and family response to care and teaching, revising the plan of care as needed.
• Evaluates patient progress towards goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with the health care team.
• Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record legibly, timely, and accurately.
• Provides care based on best evidence available and may participate in research activities within clinical practice.
• Participates in unit or facility shared leadership, education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.
• Promotes growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.
• Contributes to society through activities leading to excellent patient outcomes.
• Actively participates in improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, such as through professional organizations.
• Interacts with staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to report or clarify information.
• Synthesizes and prioritizes data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to health status changes.

Qualifications

• Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice.
• BLS certification required; additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.
• Experience in the clinical area for which you are applying is desired.
• Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of work as demonstrated through annual validations.
• For Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions: minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area.
• For Home Health settings: ability to operate a personal vehicle with a valid driver's license and active auto insurance.
• For Behavioral Health clinical settings serving children: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained throughout employment; Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
• For BUMCS Behavioral Health clinical settings: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained throughout employment.
• For Banner Home Care AZ: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained throughout employment.
• For Banner Staffing (BSS) Behavioral Health roles in Arizona: State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained throughout employment.
