Job Responsibilities

  • Makes clinical decisions based on experience, patient population data and intuition.
  • Promotes clinical decision making development in all team members.
  • Provides validation of clinical decisions for other team members.
  • Sets up validation from others for complex patients or unfamiliar situations.
  • Supports and empowers patients and families as they progress through the healthcare continuum from health promotion to end of life decisions.
  • Counsels and acts as a resource to resolve issues.
  • Advocates for patients' rights from the patient/family perspective.
  • Aids in assessing patients' learning needs and outcomes measurement of patient education.
  • Anticipates ethical, spiritual and cultural needs while intervening to maximize patient outcomes.
  • Collaborates in the coordination of healthcare and alternate services for patient and family transition planning.
  • Integrates knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum of care to include patient and family education.
  • Interprets trends in patient populations to achieve best practice.
  • Collaborates in the development and implementation of an educational plan for identified needs.
  • Reviews self-development plan and professional goals and seeks new knowledge toward the progression of professional goals.
  • Demonstrates evidence of self-development by obtaining a minimum of six formal contact hours.
  • Maintains own Team Member Continuing Education Record.

Requirements

  • Experience: Less than one (1) year as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); Master of Science Degree in Nursing (MSN); OR Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • If Associates Degree RN, the following requirements will apply: Enroll in an accredited BSN program within 2 years of start date Complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
  • Licensure/ Certification: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia or hold a privilege to practice in the State of Virginia under the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required upon start.

Qualifications

  • Positions available for various facilities, shifts and specialty areas.
  • Facilities: Inova Alexandria Hospital, Inova Fairfax Medical Campus, Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, Inova Loudoun Hospital, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital.
  • Shifts: All (Day shift, mid-shift, Night shift).
  • Specialty Areas: Inpatient units only.
