About the role

The Banner Health New Nurse Experience (NNE) is a full-time Registered Nurse position that assists you in transitioning from a new graduate to a fully competent, professional nurse. This program provides a collaborative learning environment where you can refine your nursing skills, enhance your knowledge, and develop new personal and professional relationships. Successful candidates will be placed in specific units at Banner Health facilities to be clinically mentored by unit staff and educators.

We offer multiple Career Pathways and development opportunities to achieve your long-term career goals, including specialty units, leadership roles, non-bedside nursing opportunities, or other sectors of nursing. The expectation is that you will stay on your NNE unit for at least 12 months to gain a full and comprehensive training experience. New grads must live within a reasonable commute distance of the facility they are hired into. Most new nurses will work three 12-hour shifts, including weekend and holiday rotations with other staff members.

Requirements

• Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program
• Current BLS card (through either American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI) or ability to obtain certification before start date
• No more than 12 months of RN experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Active RN license
• Previous clinical healthcare experience
• BSN & MSN

Unit Description

The Observation Unit provides care for patients not requiring inpatient admission but needing additional diagnostic workup or therapeutic intervention beyond a typical Emergency Department visit. Observation medicine manages patients for 6 to 24 hours to assess their need for inpatient admission or discharge. This approach has shown beneficial healthcare outcomes for patients.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing standards.
• Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
• Review patient history, diagnostics, and laboratory data; report abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
• Formulate and implement a plan of care, including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and input from patients, families, and the healthcare team.
• Provide care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Delegate and supervise care provided by other licensed nurses and personnel.
• Promote continuity of care through accurate communication with other caregivers.
• Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching; revise the plan of care as needed.
• Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in a timely, legible, and accurate manner.
• Participate in shared leadership, education, orientation, and mentoring activities.
• Contribute to improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes through activities such as participation in professional organizations.
• Interact with staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to support patient care.
• Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to health status changes.

Qualifications

• Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure.
• BLS certification required; additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.
• Experience in the clinical area for which you are applying is desired.
• Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of work.
• For Banner Registry and Travel positions: minimum of one year of experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months.
• For Home Health settings: valid driver’s license, active auto insurance, and ability to operate a personal vehicle.
• For Behavioral Health settings serving children: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained throughout employment; Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Professional certification preferred.
