The New Graduate RN Residency Program at Banner Health has received the highest accreditation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Practice Transition Accreditation Program® (PTAP).

The Banner Health New Nurse Experience (NNE) is a full-time Registered Nurse position that provides a collaborative learning environment where you can refine your nursing skills, enhance your knowledge, and transition from a new graduate to a fully competent, professional nurse at Banner Health. Successful candidates will be placed in specific units at Banner Health facilities to be clinically mentored by unit staff and educators.

The expectation is that you will stay on your NNE unit for at least 12 months to complete a full and comprehensive training experience. New Grads must live within a reasonable commute distance of the facility they are hired into. Most new nurses will work three 12-hour shifts, including weekend and holiday rotations with other staff members.

Requirements

• Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program
• BSN is preferred – open to ADN at select locations
• Current BLS card (through either American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI) or ability to obtain certification before start date
• No more than 12 months of RN experience
• Previous healthcare experience is preferred

Unit Description

For this role, you have an exciting opportunity to be part of a new PCU unit opening April 2027. As an RN New Grad on this unit, you will care for a wide variety of medical and surgical patients, many with complex needs and multiple co-morbidities. You will work with service lines such as cardiology, infectious disease, pulmonology, vascular surgery, internal medicine, psychiatry, gastroenterology, nephrology, and trauma. This is a fast-paced unit and a great place to build your skills. Candidates will orient on another PCU unit and then move into their home unit when it opens next year. This position is for a Day Shift, working 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM.

Responsibilities

• Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing practice standards.
• Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
• Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family and ensures completion within the appropriate timeframe.
• Reviews diagnostics and laboratory data, reporting abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
• Completes assessment and reassessments according to patient need and policy.
• Formulates a plan of care, including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and input from the patient, family, and health team.
• Initiates a plan of care based on patient-specific needs and the medical plan of care.
• Sets realistic, measurable goals in conjunction with the patient/family.
• Considers physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs in the plan of care.
• Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to plan and review care.
• Revises the plan of care to reflect changing patient needs based on evaluation.
• Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of health care team activities.
• Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, complying with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Delegates appropriately and provides supervision for licensed and unlicensed personnel.
• Promotes continuity of care by accurately communicating patient status to other caregivers.
• Evaluates patient and family response to care and teaching, revising the plan as needed.
• Evaluates patient progress toward goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with the health care team.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of patient teaching.
• Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record.
• Ensures documentation is legible, timely, and reflects objective/subjective data, interventions, and patient response.
• Notes physician orders accurately and in a timely manner.
• Provides care based on the best evidence available and may participate in research activities.
• Participates in unit or facility shared leadership, education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.
• Promotes growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.
• Contributes to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care.
• Actively participates in improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, including participation in professional organizations.
• Interacts with staff at all levels, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to report or clarify information.
• Works with clergy to provide spiritual support.
• Synthesizes and prioritizes data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to health status changes.

Qualifications

• Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice
• BLS certification required
• Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice
• Experience in the clinical area for which you are applying is desired
• Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of work
• Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require a minimum of one year of experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months
• Banner Registry and Travel physician practice positions require a minimum of one year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a physician practice or acute care setting
• For Home Health settings, must be able to operate a personal vehicle with a valid driver’s license and active auto insurance
• For Behavioral Health clinical settings serving children at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, or BUMG, BUMCT, an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card is required at hire and must be maintained
• For BUMCS Behavioral Health clinical settings, an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card is required at hire and must be maintained
• For Banner Home Care AZ, an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card is required at hire and must be maintained
• For Banner Staffing (BSS) Behavioral Health roles in Arizona, a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card is required at hire and must be maintained
