Registered Nurse RN New Grad Cardiothoracic PCU

Banner Health’s New Nurse Experience (NNE) is a full-time Registered Nurse position designed to help you transition from a new graduate to a fully competent, professional nurse. You’ll work in a collaborative learning environment, refine your nursing skills, enhance your knowledge, and build professional relationships. Successful candidates are placed in specific units at Banner Health facilities and are clinically mentored by unit staff and educators. All New Grads receive multiple career pathways and development opportunities to support long-term goals. You will stay on your NNE unit for at least 12 months to gain a comprehensive training experience.

Responsibilities

• Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural and discharge planning needs.
• Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family and ensures completion within the appropriate timeframe.
• Reviews diagnostics and laboratory data and reports abnormal results to the physician(s) and other caregivers.
• Completes assessments and reassessments according to patient need and policy.
• Formulates and initiates a plan of care, including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and input from the patient, family and health team.
• Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the health care team.
• Evaluates patient and family response to care and teaching, revising the plan of care as needed.
• Documents assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record in a timely and legible manner.
• Provides care based on the best available evidence and may participate in research activities within clinical practice.
• Participates in unit or facility shared leadership and contributes to the education and orientation of staff, patients, students, families and visitors.
• Promotes growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.
• Actively participates in the improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes.
• Interacts with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families and external contacts regarding patient care.
• Synthesizes and prioritizes data from multiple sources to support the human response of the patient and family to changes in health status.

Unit Description

The Cardiothoracic PCU Unit (6EW) specializes in the care of adult post-surgical cardio-thoracic patients, including those recovering from coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), valve replacements, minimally invasive robot-assisted bypass, lung resection, heart and lung transplant, thoracotomy, major resections for cancer of the lungs and esophagus, complex aortic surgery, valvular heart surgery, endovascular repair of thoracic aortic aneurysms, and minimally invasive thoracic surgery including video-assisted thoracoscopic (VATS) lobectomy. Staff on this unit have specialty training in the management of patients on total artificial heart and left ventricular assist devices. The unit is Joint Commission Certified and one of the few in the state offering innovative treatment options. Patient care is delivered through teamwork among nurses, technicians, physicians from Cardiology, Pulmonary Medicine, Vascular Surgery and Oncology, mid-level practitioners, case managers, social workers and therapists.

Requirements

• Recent or upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program.
• BSN preferred; ADN accepted at select locations.
• Current BLS card through American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI, or ability to obtain before start date.
• No more than 12 months of RN experience.
• Previous healthcare experience is preferred.
• Must possess a current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice.

This is a full-time, benefitted, and paid position. Enjoy a flat rate $3/hour weekend shift differential and an 18% night shift differential when applicable.
