About the Role
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Neurology - Med Surg department functions as a care provider within a multidisciplinary team, delivering patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The RN integrates knowledge of patient age and cultural diversity into care, demonstrates strong time management and prioritization skills, and supports the mission of the ministry by providing physical and psychological support to patients and families.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to establish goals and strategies for meeting patient discharge or continuing care needs.
- Perform and document complete patient assessments, and maintain current nursing care plans for assigned patients.
- Identify patient learning needs and provide individualized, comprehensive teaching.
- Administer medications safely, consistent with state practice and organizational policies.
- Serve as a point of contact for patient care coordination across hospital departments.
- Act as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement initiatives.
- Serve as a patient advocate in collaboration with spiritual care, palliative care, and ethics teams.
- Assign patient care based on nursing skill, knowledge, and scope of practice of staff.
- Orient, facilitate learning, and provide education to nursing staff and others based on quality improvement indicators and outcomes.
- Provide evidence-based patient care in accordance with current standards of practice, policy, and mission.
- Perform comprehensive assessments of patients' clinical conditions and psychosocial needs.
- Develop, implement, and prioritize safe and efficient plans of care.
- Apply the nursing process in patient care delivery.
- Assess patient responses to treatment, evaluate intervention effectiveness, and revise plans of care accordingly.
- Assist patients and families in coping with illness.
- Collaborate with others in delivering coordinated patient care.
- Apply cultural diversity and inclusion principles in patient care.
- Recognize personal limitations, seek assistance, and acquire information to perform safely.
- Advance personal and professional growth through educational programs, literature, in-services, and workshops.
- Exhibit professionalism through accountability for own and delegated actions.

Requirements
- Current RN license in the state of employment or covered by compact (required).
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (preferred upon hire, must obtain from an approved source prior to direct patient care).
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification (preferred).
- One year of RN experience (required).
- Six months of RN experience in an acute care hospital setting (preferred).
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred).
- Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification (RN-BC) (preferred).
- Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification (preferred).
- Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) (preferred).
- Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN) (preferred).
- National Institute of Health (NIH) Stroke Certification (preferred).

Schedule
24 scheduled weekly hours, weekend-only shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM.
