About the role

The Med/Surg unit at Meadowview Regional Medical Center provides direct patient care to acutely ill adult patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization. This position coordinates total nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching, acts as a patient advocate and works as part of a team with ancillary and non-nursing departments.

Responsibilities

  • Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
  • Documents patient care given.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of patient care.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment for patients and staff.
  • Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Floats to other departments as needed to maintain safe nurse-to-patient ratios.
  • Able to manage ventilators, cpap/bipap, vapotherms.
  • Able to titrate and maintain critical drips on the ICU patient, including knowledge of indications, contraindications, and side effects.
  • Must pass a rhythm recognition test within 90 days of hire/transfer.

Requirements

  • Current Kentucky or compact state RN license.
  • Associate's degree from an accredited nursing school.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required within one month of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required within 6 months of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 6 months of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

Pay

Commensurate with experience.
