Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Specialties Unit

About the role

The Registered Nursing (RN) position at Norfolk General Hospital's Medical Specialties Department requires performing competent nursing care using the nursing process. This includes meeting standards of practice and professional performance as outlined for specific clinical areas. All Direct Care RNs must have a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.

Department Overview

We are the first in the Sentara System and second in the state of Virginia to win the PRISM Award for the specialty of Med-Surg. Our unit is recognized for our collective achievements and contributions to safe, high-quality care. With over 20 years of certified medical surgical nurses, we provide care for a diverse patient population including CHF, Sickle Cell, Renal Failure, Vascular, Sepsis, COPD, Pneumonia, Osteomyelitis with Surgical Interventions, Wound Care, and various disease processes. We utilize EPIC integration for streamlined data entry and maintain a strong team culture through communication tools like walkie-talkies.

Education and Experience

A degree in Nursing is required, and prior RN experience is preferred.
