Registered Nurse (RN) - Med/Surg

Part-time position, 24 hours per week, benefits eligible. Schedule consists of 2 shifts per week, primarily during the day.

About the role

Atrium Health Navicent Peach is a dynamic 25-bed department delivering comprehensive care to swing bed patients and ER admissions. The team manages complex treatments such as heparin drips, insulin drips, and more, while swing bed patients benefit from onsite physical and occupational therapy to regain strength and independence. The Med-Surg unit is powered by a dedicated team of nurses working together to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

• Engage in unit councils, professional governance, and quality initiatives to improve care processes and apply evidence-based practices.
• Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, diagnose, implement, and evaluate nursing care, engaging patients and families through the continuum of care.
• Monitor patient conditions, adjust care plans, mobilize resources, and collaborate with the care team to influence care outcomes.
• Uphold and promote a culture of safety.
• Continuously evaluate patient, team, and unit outcomes, taking action as needed.
• Administer medications, treatments, and therapies safely and according to clinical protocols and procedures.
• Demonstrate effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution, fostering team collaboration and appropriate delegation.
• Pursue professional development, complete required education, and maintain certifications.
• Adhere to the ANA Code of Ethics, practice ethical decision-making, respect interdisciplinary roles, and contribute to integrated, unbiased patient care.
• Delegate appropriately to other Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and unlicensed assistive personnel (e.g., nurse aides, credentialed medical assistants).
• Maintain accurate, timely EHR documentation.
• Float to other units, departments, care areas, or facilities within the designated service area to meet patient care needs as required.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served, including principles of growth and development over the life span.

Requirements

• Graduate of a Board of Nursing approved nursing education program.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Active registered nurse (RN) multi-state compact and/or single-state license with privileges to practice in the state(s) where care is provided. Licensed nurses practicing via telehealth must comply with the laws, rules, and regulations of the state(s) where the client is located.
• Typically requires 1 year of experience in clinical nursing.
• Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent time management, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in communication, interpersonal skills, and operating computer functions (e.g., email, electronic records, digital platforms).

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift and support up to 35 pounds when handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
• Ability to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
• Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch, with fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures.
• Ability to maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines.
• Perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de-escalation, if needed.
• Exposure to chemical and hazardous waste, blood and body fluids, and communicable diseases; protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.
• Ability to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions.
• Physical Abilities Testing may be required.

Qualifications

Preferred: Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN).

Pay

Pay range: $38.20 - $57.30 per hour.
