Fairview is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Med/Surg 7B unit at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank in Minneapolis, MN.

About the role

This 22-bed unit provides care for adult patients undergoing Thoracic Surgery, Urology Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, General Surgery, and those with Cystic Fibrosis or General Medicine needs. Patient ratios are 3-4 patients on day and evening shifts, and 4-5 patients on the night shift.

The University of Minnesota Medical Center (UMMC) is an integrated academic health care system with two hospitals and dozens of adult specialty clinics on the East and West banks of the UMMC campus in Minneapolis. It is the flagship facility of Fairview, providing breakthrough medicine and redefining community health.

New Grad Residency

The Nurse Residency Program bridges the gap between academia and real-world clinical practice for new grad/novice nurses. It offers an organized, structured, and practice-based learning environment to support the transition from nursing school to hospital practice.

  • Structured Learning: Residents engage in a curriculum (8 hours of learning every 2 months for 12 months) covering time management, interprofessional teaming, communication, wellbeing, social determinants of health, critical thinking, and more.
  • Mentorship: Multiple mentorship opportunities provide guidance, support, and insights to help residents thrive.
  • Networking: Residents connect with peers, build relationships, and collaborate on practice-based learning.
  • Hands-On Experience: Includes clinical experiences and a pilot virtual reality program for formative learning.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient needs and identify expected nursing outcomes.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and the healthcare team to develop a nursing plan as part of an integrated, comprehensive care plan.
  • Develop an individualized plan based on age, social and cultural considerations, condition, and other relevant needs.
  • Evaluate care and patient response to interventions and expected outcomes.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team across care settings to promote partnership-based care.
  • Advance care by utilizing standards, guidelines, care pathways, and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Promote a culture of evidence-based practice (EBP).

Requirements

  • MN Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Association or Red Cross)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • 1 year of experience

Schedule

  • 0.75 FTE (60 hours every two weeks)
  • 12-hour overnight shifts
  • Every third rotation
