About the role
The RN/LPN provides direct nursing care to residents and supervises the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. Supervision must align with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing the facility.
Responsibilities
- Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants.
- Plan and coordinate shift services, programs, and activities with assigned nursing staff and support personnel.
- Provide written and oral reports concerning shift activities.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
- Lead nursing personnel assigned to your unit/shift.
- Complete and file required record-keeping forms/charts for resident admission, transfer, and discharge.
- Receive and transcribe physician telephone orders.
- Chart nurse’s notes reflecting care provided and resident responses.
- Complete and submit accident/incident reports as required.
- Perform routine charting duties in accordance with established policies.
- Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician.
- Maintain good working relationships with inter-departmental personnel to ensure resident needs are met.
- Foster a warm, positive, and calm environment on the unit.
- Conduct shift change reports and make physician rounds as necessary.
- Administer professional services such as catheterization, tube feedings, suction, wound care, colostomy care, and range-of-motion exercises.
- Monitor assigned personnel for compliance with safety regulations.
- Maintain resident confidentiality and privacy, including protected health information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Current unencumbered RN or LPN state license.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances require.
- Knowledge of nursing practices, procedures, and relevant laws/regulations for nursing care facilities.
- Current CPR certification.
- Long-term care experience preferred.
Physical Demands
- Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Ability to cope with mental and emotional stress associated with the position.
- Must function independently, demonstrate flexibility, personal integrity, and work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
- Ability to push, pull, move, or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and transport such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
