Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) will be a vital member of a dynamic team responsible for diagnosing responses to actual or potential health problems and providing basic supportive, and restorative care through the nursing process.

Job Responsibilities

  • Accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients in the Maternal Child Health Unit.
  • Assesses the health status of patients/families by means of comprehensive health history and physical examination.
  • Initiates selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations, interprets findings, and alters the plan of care according to collaborative practice agreements and protocols in designated areas.
  • Educates and counsels in the areas of health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses.
  • Documents findings and plan of care in the patient's medical record.
  • Consults with physician per established Day Kimball Hospital policy.
  • Intervenes to provide a safe environment and evaluates the effectiveness of intervention for patients.
  • Recognizes unsafe and life-threatening situations and how to intervene appropriately.
  • Demonstrates skills in critical thinking, effective communication, organizational skills, problem-solving, and ability to make appropriate independent decisions.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing is required.
  • A registered nurse (RN) license issued by the state of Connecticut is required.
  • Labor and Delivery experience preferred.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification or equivalent is required; if not currently certified, must obtain within three (3) months of employment.
  • American Academy of Pediatrics Neonatal Resuscitation certification is required within three (3) months of employment.
  • Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
