Job Summary
The Behavioral Health Services Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in the team, providing care through the nursing process. The nursing model emphasizes a relationship-based approach, fostering a personalized care experience.
Job Responsibilities
- Accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating nursing care for assigned patients in the Psychiatric Inpatient Program.
- Assesses patients' health status through comprehensive health history and physical examination.
- Initiates therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations, interpreting results and adjusting care plans accordingly.
- Educates and counsels patients and families on health promotion, disease prevention, and illness management.
- Documents findings and care plans in the patient’s medical record.
- Consults with physicians as needed, following hospital policies.
- Intervenes to ensure a safe environment and evaluates the effectiveness of interventions.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license from the state of Connecticut.
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification or equivalent, obtained within three months of employment.
- Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
- NVCIT (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training) certification or within three months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Trained and competent in managing volatile situations involving patients.
- Demonstrated psychological and emotional resilience in crisis situations.
- Knowledge in psychiatric nursing.
- Strong critical thinking, communication, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Working knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice.
- Compassionate customer service and ability to meet the needs of patients and colleagues.
- Ability to evaluate and reformulate care plans effectively.
