Registered Nurse (RN) - Interventional Radiology
About the Role
Under the supervision of the Imaging Operations Manager and the clinical direction of the radiologist, independently performs nursing duties. Collects initial and ongoing data about the health status of the patient, obtains and verifies all required information, initiates informed consent, and communicates to pertinent individuals. Evaluates and documents patient response to intervention/therapy based on expected outcomes. Creates individualized plans of care for patients in the imaging center, carries out and assists physicians with interventions (sedation, biopsies, etc.), prepares and administers medications, performs record keeping and documentation, and serves as the primary liaison between patients, radiologists, and other members of the support team.
Responsibilities
- Complete comprehensive patient assessment specific to clinical area/unit.
- Delegate tasks appropriately within scope of practice to ancillary personnel and perform necessary follow-up.
- Demonstrate critical thinking and time management in patient care.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies.
- Demonstrate good time management and prioritization skills.
- Document all aspects of care thoroughly per hospital policy.
- Follow organizational policies in providing safe patient care at all times (medication administration, handoffs, etc.).
- Integrate patient and family teaching in daily routine to identify expected outcomes and goals.
- Participate in department quality improvement efforts.
- Perform moderate and deep sedation on patients under physician direction, including appropriate monitoring, assessments, interventions, and documentation as required by policy.
- Ensure appropriate recovery of all patients per hospital policy.
- Perform the professional, clinical, and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Requirements
- High School Graduate
- Associate Degree in Nursing
- For ADN-prepared nurses hired after 2/24/2017: must complete BSN degree by the fifth anniversary of employment as an RN with UKHA
- 2 or more years of experience as a clinical nurse
Qualifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA) or obtained within 14 days
- Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) – Single State (Kansas State Board of Nursing)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association (AHA) within 1 year
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – American Heart Association (AHA) within 1 year
Preferred Qualifications
- Acute/Critical Care Nursing (Adult) (CCRN) – American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Certification Corporation (AACN)
- Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN), Certified Radiology Nurse (CRN)
- Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) – Emergency Nurses Association (ENA)
