Registered Nurse (RN) - Intermediate Care Unit (Stepdown)

About the role

The Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) at Sentara Obici Hospital is seeking a dedicated and patient-focused Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality, evidence-based care to patients requiring close observation and specialized nursing support. The IMCU is a 24 bed unit that provides care for higher acuity patients in neuro, cardiac, respiratory, surgical, and renal conditions. Typical patients include respiratory failure/congestive heart failure, chronic trached ventilator patients, stroke and seizure patients, MI cardiac patients, Renal hemodialysis, and post op surgical patients with extensive wounds such as decubitus ulcers, VATS, orthopedic, and ostomy.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
• Monitor and manage patient’s condition, including vital signs, medications, and treatments.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Provide direct patient care, including administering medications, performing procedures, and educating patients and families.
• Document patient care activities accurately and timely.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• Current Registered Nursing license in Virginia.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred, but not required.
• Experience in acute care setting preferred, but not required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire.

• Knowledge of nursing care protocols and standards.
