About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct nursing care to residents and supervises the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. This role ensures the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants.
  • Plan and coordinate shift services, programs, and activities with assigned nursing staff and support personnel.
  • Make written and oral reports concerning shift activities as required.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as needed.
  • Provide leadership to nursing personnel assigned to your unit/shift.
  • Complete and file required recordkeeping forms/charts upon resident admission, transfer, and/or discharge.
  • Receive and transcribe telephone orders from physicians and record them on the Physician’s Order Form.
  • Chart nurse’s notes in an informative and descriptive manner reflecting care provided and resident response.
  • Fill out and complete accident/incident reports and submit them to the Director as required.
  • Perform routine charting duties in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician.
  • Maintain a good working rapport with inter-departmental personnel to ensure nursing services meet resident needs.
  • Create and maintain a warm, calm, and positive environment for residents and staff.
  • Receive and give nursing reports at the start and end of shifts.
  • Make rounds with physicians as necessary.
  • Administer professional services such as catheterization, tube feedings, suction, wound care, colostomy care, blood draws, massages, and range of motion exercises.
  • Monitor assigned personnel to ensure compliance with safety regulations for equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected health information.
  • Ensure all nursing care is provided in privacy and that personnel knock before entering resident rooms.
  • Provide IV and IV site care as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with a current unencumbered state license.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, procedures, and regulations pertaining to nursing care facilities.
  • Current CPR Certification.
  • Experience in Long Term Care is preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Ability to cope with mental and emotional stress associated with the position.
  • Must meet general health requirements, including a medical and physical examination as per facility policies.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
  • May be required to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
