Registered Nurse (RN) - ICU
About the Role
Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is part of Lifepoint Health, a diversified healthcare delivery network with facilities coast to coast. As a Registered Nurse (RN) in the ICU, you will join a team driven by a commitment to prioritize well-being and provide exceptional care. This PRN (as needed) position requires a minimum of 30 hours per month, including one weekend per month and two holidays per year.
Responsibilities
- Provide primary nursing care to critically ill patients throughout their stay in the ICU, functioning within a team.
- Accurately identify arrhythmias and intervene according to established procedures; anticipate complications and communicate with physicians in a timely manner.
- Start IVs, administer medications and IV fluids, assess patient responses, and titrate dosages as per physician orders.
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the ICU and function as code nurse when applicable.
- Manage critically ill patients during transfers to other departments or healthcare facilities, providing appropriate reports for continuity of care.
- Regularly test monitoring equipment and alarm systems to ensure proper functioning.
- Demonstrate complete knowledge of the location, care, and operation of all ICU equipment.
- Apply appropriate safety precautions (e.g., with invasive lines, during defibrillation) and utilize infection control practices to minimize nosocomial infections.
- Participate in special procedures and examinations performed by physicians, preparing patients and providing emotional support as required.
- Consistently assess nursing care in critical care areas and identify problems or needs for improvement.
- Assess patient conditions using the nursing process and professional judgment to individualize care.
- Document observations, interventions, medications, and treatment therapies.
- Assess patients' immediate needs and prioritize care upon arrival; obtain pertinent patient history.
- Notify family or significant others of patient progress and include them in the plan of care when applicable (e.g., minors or POAs).
- Participate in bedside change-of-shift reports.
- Maintain standards of critical care nursing practice.
- Continuously assess and improve the performance of care and service provided.
- Orient and mentor new team members in the department.
Requirements
- Graduate of an RN program with an active Pennsylvania RN license (single-state or compact) or a current multistate license (MSL) from compact member states/territories. If relocating, the license must be updated to the new Primary State of Residence (PSOR) before employment begins.
- Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required or obtained within 6 months of hire.
- CCRN certification preferred.
- Basic Trauma Nurse Course (BTNC) or equivalent training (ATCN, TCRN, TNCC) required within 1 year of hire.
