Job Overview

The RN Complex Care independently provides direct nursing care to patients and their families in accordance with established policies, procedures, and practices in a complex care area. Location: Main Campus Unit: ICU-1 Shift: 36 Hours, Evenings | Nights 7:00PM-7:00AM Weekends and Holidays Required Unit Summary: ICU- 1 is a 12 bed Intensive Care Unit that provides care for both medical and surgical critically ill patients, including cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, hematologic, OB, gastrointestinal, renal, vascular, and multi system diagnoses. Our patients may require hemodynamic or respiratory support, close hemodynamic monitoring, or intensive levels of nursing care. This may include patients requiring IABP, Impella devises, lysis, EKOS, TPA, hemodialysis, CRRT, PA lines, or 24 hour EEG monitoring. The ICU staff are offered ongoing bedside and classroom training, teaching, and educational opportunities. Newly hired nurses are currently utilizing AACN’s online training program ECCO as part of their on-boarding and training. Our goal is to deliver high quality patient care to every ICU patient.

About the Role

The Community RN Career Direct Care Pathway placement is comprised of four levels based on a RN’s minimum experience, education, and qualifications. Level I - 0 – Less than 12 Months of RN Experience. Level II - 12 Months - Less than 3 Years of RN Experience. Level III - 3 Years - Less than 8 Years of RN Experience. Level IV - 8 Years of RN Experience.

Responsibilities

• Participates in and maintains awareness of performance improvement initiatives.
• Conscientiously evaluates and integrates evidence-based practice and research into clinical practice.
• Counsults and documents accurate clinical assessments.
• Develops, implements, and evaluates the patient’s individualized plan of care.
• Uses professional nursing judgment to individualize the plan of care based on assessment of the patient's needs.
• Manages own patient assignment by delegating and effectively based on patient needs and skills of team members.
• Develops a comprehensive educational plan for the patient and family, utilizing appropriate resources, and documents according to department standards.
• Recognizes patient/family rights through support of their informed decisions and advanced directives.
• Continually evaluates and revises the care plan according to changes in the patient’s health status.
• Develops a comprehensive discharge plan utilizing appropriate resources and referrals including community resources.
• Supports the development of new staff members and helps facilitate their transition into unit.
• Guides the professional growth of department staff through precepting.
• Participates in professional development by identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate education.
• Participates in departmental committees as needed.

Qualifications

• Massachusetts RN Licensure.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
• Department Specific: Certification(s) relevant to the department and the type of patient care being provided may be required.
• Experience based on level (I, II, III, or IV).
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Skills & Abilities

• Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare team.
• Knowledge of and application of the nursing process.
