Banner Thunderbird Medical Center has served the Northwest Valley for more than 25 years and is one of the most preferred hospitals in the Valley. As a Level 1 Trauma Center, the facility includes a heart and vascular center, state-of-the-art surgical suites, and a new Emergency department.

In this role as a Registered Nurse in the General PCU, you will care for a wide variety of patients, such as vascular, cardio-thoracic surgical, heart failure, Neuro, and respiratory. This 30-bed general Medical PCU floor offers the largest variety of cases, including multisystem complexly ill patients. Patients come from the ICU, as upgrades from floors due to changes in acuity, and as admits from the ED.

Skills needed for this unit include self-driven nurses who can respond quickly to changes in the patient’s condition, critical thinking, effective communication, teamwork, a positive mindset, willingness to overcome barriers and challenges by implementing evidence-based practice, and flexibility. Enjoy a flat rate $3.00/hour weekend shift differential when applicable.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
• Review patient history and physical with patient/family and ensure completion within the appropriate timeframe.
• Review available information obtained by other health care team members, diagnostics, and laboratory data; report abnormal results to physicians and appropriate caregivers.
• Complete assessment and reassessments according to patient need and policy.
• Formulate a plan of care, including the discharge plan, utilizing assessment data and input from the patient, family, and health team.
• Initiate a plan of care based on patient-specific needs, assessment data, and the medical plan of care; ensure goals are realistic, measurable, and developed with the patient/family.
• Consider physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs in the plan of care.
• Plan care in collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team; review and revise the plan to reflect changing patient needs.
• Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of health care team activities.
• Provide care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements.
• Delegate appropriately and provide nursing supervision in the provision of care to patients by other licensed nurses and personnel.
• Promote continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating patient status to other caregivers.
• Evaluate the patient’s and family’s response to care and teaching; revise the plan of care as needed.
• Evaluate patient progress toward goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with other health care team members.
• Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record; ensure documentation is legible, timely, and reflects objective/subjective data, nursing interventions, and patient response.
• Provide care based on the best evidence available and participate in research activities within clinical practice.
• Participate in unit or facility shared leadership, education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.
• Promote and support the growth of others through precepting and mentoring.
• Contribute to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care.
• Actively participate in the improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, including professional organizations.
• Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to report or clarify information.
• Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support the human response of the patient and family to changes in health status.

Requirements

• Current, valid RN license in the state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for the current state of practice.
• BLS certification is required; additional certification or continuing education may be required based on the area of practice.
• Experience in the clinical area for which you are applying is desired.
• Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of work as demonstrated through annual validations.
• Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require a minimum of one year of experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area.
• Banner Registry and Travel physician practice positions require a minimum of one year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a physician practice or acute care setting.
• For Home Health settings, must be able to operate a personal vehicle with a valid driver’s license and active auto insurance coverage.
• Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, Banner Home Care/Hospice, or Boswell Skilled Nursing Facility must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment.
• Employees working at Banner MD Anderson on the Banner University Medical Center Phoenix campus must possess a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment.
• Employees working in the Banner McKee Senior Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit must possess a Colorado Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment.
• Employees working in any Banner Staffing (BSS) Behavioral Health role in Arizona must possess a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment.
