As a Float Critical Care Registered Nurse (RN) at RWJBarnabas Health, you will deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care across multiple high-acuity units—ICU, CCU, CTICU, CTIMCU, and IMCU—based on daily staffing needs. This role requires broad critical care competency, adaptability, and the ability to quickly orient to varied unit protocols, equipment, and patient populations ranging from intermediate care to the highest-acuity ICU patients.

Responsibilities

  • Administer high-risk medications, titrate drips, and manage complex IV/central line and arterial line access.
  • Provide patient- and family-centered communication and emotional support during critical illness.
  • Care for critically ill patients requiring mechanical ventilation, vasoactive infusions, hemodynamic monitoring, and ECMO support.
  • Deliver direct patient care across assigned critical care and intermediate care units based on daily staffing needs.
  • Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, patients, and families.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and recognize subtle clinical changes to intervene early and advocate for patients.
  • Provide safe, evidence-based medications, treatments, and hands-on care grounded in strong clinical judgment.
  • Serve as a clinical partner to physicians and advanced providers, offering insight that supports timely, well-coordinated care decisions.
  • Provide clear, compassionate education to patients and families so they feel informed, supported, and prepared for the next phase of care.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record to promote continuity and patient safety.
  • Contribute during interdisciplinary rounds to drive seamless communication and smooth transitions of care.
  • Take an active role in a highly collaborative team environment where shared accountability and teamwork directly impact outcomes.
  • Pursue continued professional growth through continuing education, clinical ladder opportunities, and organizational resources.

Qualifications

  • Active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification upon hire; ACLS must be completed within 120 days of hire.
  • Associate Science in Nursing degree required; Bachelor’s degree in nursing must be completed within 5 years of hire.
  • Minimum 2 years of hospital experience in ICU/CCU/CTICU/IMCU highly preferred.
  • Comfortable with electronic medical record systems (EMR) like EPIC.
  • CCRN certification preferred.

Schedule

Full-time day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM, Monday – Friday, with every other weekend and holiday rotation.

Pay

The anticipated hourly wage range for this position is $49.28 – $66.05 per hour. The compensation offered will depend on the candidate’s educational background, skills, and professional experience.
