About the role
As a Registered Nurse in Emergency Services, you will embrace a vital mission dedicated to making communities healthier. Our Emergency Department is supported by a collaborative team of 70 RNs and nursing support staff, caring for approximately 46,000 patients annually. This fast-paced, team-oriented environment provides valuable hands-on experience where every shift is meaningful, engaging, and impactful.
Our 24/7, 36-bed Emergency Department blends advanced clinical expertise with compassionate, patient-focused care. We also offer OASIS Emergency Services, an eight-bed unit dedicated to senior patients, providing a calmer environment with specially trained staff and access to a gerontologist.
Responsibilities
- Performs plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care activities.
- Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to the care team, physician, patient, and family.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
- Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfers, discharges, referrals, and psychosocial/spiritual support needs.
- Evaluates patient and family learning needs and provides appropriate education based on age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
- Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
- Participates in performance improvement and continuing education.
Requirements
- Current state RN license.
- Associate's degree in nursing required; bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
- BCLS certification required.
- ACLS, PALS, and Handle with Care preferred; must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
- Two-three years of experience preferred, but new graduates are welcomed to apply.

About the facility
North Alabama Medical Center is a 263-bed facility offering the community's only open-heart surgery site, a complete line of women's and children's services, and a full range of medical and imaging services. We are a Certified Chest Pain Center and recognized as a Primary Stroke Center of Excellence by the American Heart/American Stroke Association. Our 24-hour emergency department serves as the primary referral center for major trauma cases in Northwest Alabama.
