About the role

The Portage Emergency Department at UP Health System - Portage is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic team. This position offers a flexible schedule with 12-hour swing/night/day shifts, including Christmas Eve and every third weekend.

Responsibilities

  • Care for patients and administer medications according to established best practices, competencies, and training.
  • Accurately document patient care given.
  • Maintain constant visual observation of patients to monitor their activity and behavior, never leaving the patient alone or out of sight unless relieved by another staff member.
  • Accurately and legibly record data collected and notify the patient care team of any untoward events (behavioral changes, violent behavior, etc.).
  • Evaluate learning needs of patients and/or families and provide appropriate patient/family education.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Contribute to and assist in maintaining a pleasant patient environment in a safe and orderly manner.
  • Maintain the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information.

Requirements

  • A current Michigan RN license (or attain within 90 days of hire).
  • An associate degree from an accredited nursing school (bachelor's degree preferred).
  • Basic Life Support Certification.
  • One year of medical-surgical experience or one year of emergency department/critical care experience (preferred).
  • ACLS, PALS, TNCC certification within six months of hire.
  • Annual influenza vaccination or declination required.
