Registered Nurse (RN) - Day Surgery Manager

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical and operational leadership for the Ambulatory Surgery Unit, including preoperative and Phase II postoperative care.
  • Oversees daily staffing, assignments, scheduling, patient flow, and unit operations to ensure safe and efficient care delivery.
  • Supervises, supports, and evaluates nursing and support staff; participates in hiring, orientation, competency validation, coaching, and performance management.
  • Collaborates with surgeons, anesthesia providers, OR, PACU, PAT, and other departments to coordinate surgical and procedural patient care.
  • Ensures appropriate assessment, preparation, education, and discharge of surgical and procedural patients.
  • Promotes compliance with hospital policies, evidence-based nursing practice, infection prevention standards, medication management requirements, and patient safety practices.
  • Maintains readiness and compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements, including CMS, state regulations, and organizational standards.
  • Monitors quality, safety, productivity, patient experience, and operational performance and implements corrective actions or process improvements when indicated.
  • Safeguards staff maintain required competencies, education, licensure, and certifications.
  • Manages resources responsibly, including staffing, supplies, equipment, and departmental productivity.
  • Identifies and escalates patient safety, staffing, physician, or operational concerns through the appropriate chain of command.
  • Promotes effective communication, teamwork, accountability, and a professional work environment.
  • Assists with departmental quality improvement initiatives, audits, regulatory surveys, and corrective action plans.
  • Maintains clinical competency and provides direct patient care or operational support when necessary.

Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse license in the state of Texas or current multistate compact RN license.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • BLS required; ACLS and PALS as required by facility policy.
  • Previous perioperative, ambulatory surgery, preoperative, PACU, or surgical services nursing experience preferred.
  • Previous charge nurse, supervisory, or nursing leadership experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of patient safety, regulatory compliance, staffing, quality improvement, and surgical patient flow.
  • Strong communication, leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills.
