About the role

The Medical Progressive Care Department (PCU) at Banner University Medical Center-Phoenix provides a solid cardiac foundation that creates outstanding cardiac nurses who can leverage this experience to advance in areas such as the Intensive Care Units (ICU), Emergency Department (ED), and Operating Room (OR). PCU nurses are highly recruited for their critical thinking skills, developed through the acuity of patients we care for. We are currently seeking experienced PCU Nurses but are also accepting applications from those with Telemetry, ICU, Home Health, Skilled Nursing, Medical/Surgical, or any other acute or critical care background.

As a Medical PCU Registered Nurse, you will care for a wide variety of patients, including those with heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, pre-heart transplant, NSTEMI, and pre- and post-cardiac device (AICD, pacemakers). You will offer treatment modalities such as ultrafiltration for heart failure patients no longer responding to diuretics. Responsibilities

• Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
• Review patient history and physical with patient/family and ensure completion within the appropriate timeframe.
• Review available information obtained by other health care team members, diagnostics, and laboratory data; report abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
• Complete assessment and reassessments according to patient need and policy.
• Formulate a plan of care, including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and input from the patient, family, and health team.
• Initiate a plan of care based on patient-specific needs, assessment data, and the medical plan of care; ensure goals are realistic and measurable.
• Consider physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs in the plan of care.
• Plan care in collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team; review and revise the plan to reflect changing patient needs.
• Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of health care team activities.
• Provide care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies, procedures, and standards.
• Delegate appropriately and provide nursing supervision for care provided by other licensed nurses and personnel.
• Promote continuity of care by accurately communicating patient status to other caregivers.
• Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching; revise the plan of care as needed.
• Evaluate patient progress toward goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with the health care team.
• Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record; ensure documentation is legible, timely, and reflects objective/subjective data, interventions, and patient response.
• Provide care based on best evidence available and participate in research activities within clinical practice.
• Participate in unit or facility shared leadership, education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.
• Promote and support the growth of others through precepting and mentoring.
• Contribute to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes.
• Actively participate in improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, such as through professional organizations.
• Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to report or clarify information.
• Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to health status changes.

Requirements

• Current, valid RN license in the state of practice, temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for the current state of practice.
• BLS certification is required.
• Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on the area of practice.
• Experience in the clinical area for which you are applying is desired.
• Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of work, demonstrated through annual validations.
• Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require a minimum of one year of experience in an acute care hospital setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area.
• Banner Registry and Travel physician practice positions require a minimum of one year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a physician practice or acute care setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Professional certification preferred.

Schedule

This is a full-time day shift opening requiring 3 shifts per week from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, including weekends and holidays on a rotating basis. You will have the opportunity to utilize our self-scheduling tool for shift and weekend coverage. Enjoy a flat rate $3/hour weekend shift differential.

Pay

A $10,000 hire-on bonus is available for this position.
